Hey Russ, if you are looking at hiring a camper from WA then check out the deal being offered by Crikey Camper Hire in W.A. They are on the Pradopoint Vendors page on the GTG website and are offering discounts to PP members on validation of their PP username.

      • Checked witht he Mrs over the weekend and she's up for the meet aswell.
So far its all looking promising for us. Will just need to check with work though to see is I can get that time off in July. I should be able to advise by early next week at the latest if we are coming. All and all it should be a great trip and am keen to catch up with everbody.

I have a question regarding my vehicle preparation though.
Does anybody think it would be wise to change the stock suspension over before heading out to Red Center?
I do have plans to change this in the near future anyway just to help with the ground clearance problems I already have.

I'm just going through making a small list of what I need to do on the vehicle over the next 12 months to get it trip ready.

        cheers

I designed the routes so that stock suspension would be fine Stew. The only maybe track is the Ruby Gap but even that should be fine, I saw a fully loaded Ford Courier do it when we were out there about two months ago. He only had a bit of trouble in the last kilometre.

          Cheers

          • Thanks Mav,

No worries, I just wasn't sure how rugged these routes can get.
I should have the suspension done by then but if I haven't I 'll just have to drag its backside through.

            Regards

Well we have had our first victim of the global financial meltdown, it is with regret that I announce that Ben (FlyNdrive) will not be able to attend the GTG with his family and FJ Cruiser. I hope things start to look brighter for Ben in the near future.

There are difficult times ahead for everyone, I am hoping it will not deter too many people from attending but I understand that we all have our priorities to family welfare and security.

              Cheers

Ohhhh, what a bugger. Sorry to hear that Ben. Looks like I'll just have to keep popping in for the Bruiser's GTG.

On the upside, there has already been mention of the 2010 PP GTG, so I'm sure this will also become an annual event and since economies do bounce back... (please please please) ... hopefully there will be another chance down the track.

                  Mates,

I'm sorry I had to spring it on you this late in the game. I have already outfitted a good part of my vehicle for it, so the decision was hard to make. As I told Mav I had to play catch up with every setback (AIG insurance, Toyota financial, dwindling portfolio, and value of the dollar) The vacation with the FJ was about $20K. With the financial markets in ruins and resulting pay cuts the trip was just to ambitious with George Bush in office. I would like to look at coming down without a vehicle and will talk with the wife about it.

The good news though is that since I issued a request to numerous companies, yesterday, to consider sponsoring our GTG event there has already been a favourable response. It has surprised me actually because I had thought that due to the economic meltdown around the world there would be little or no response to sponsorship requests.

Once I have spoken with those companies that respond favourably I will be in a position to annouce who our sponsors will be and I will be updating the event website accordingly.

                    Cheers

Great to hear Mav. We will certainly still be doing our upmost to get there. It all looks good so far. Just have to make sure I have a job when we come back from overseas. Hope all goes well with your sponsorship drive as well mate.

                            Was thinking today about deposits..
Mav, When would you require a depost for any of the campgrounds etc??

And on another note, I hope the fuel prices stay as they are, They arent that painful at the moment...

6 months eh??? and counting down. Time to make a dent on the TO DO list. It will be here before we know it.

Roof rack, additions to the trailer, new fridge slide to suit one seat in the back, tyres, etc etc.

Yep - our family signed up over Christmas and really looking forward to it.

We just go back from a weekend at Wombeyan Caves. Fantastic spot, great national park camp grounds. Didn't do any off road work except the unsealed road on the way in there (we were towing so took the Goulbourn route).

Hope to get to know you all over the next 6 months before we meet up in the centre.

At this stage it will be a pay as you arrive deal at the campgrounds. Many of the places will take bookings in advance if you contact them. I had hoped things would have been better on the sponsor front but that is not looking to good in the current climate.

I would prefer not to handle the money as then it becomes messy, I think it is better for each person to pay their own fees direct to the campgrounds that way if you want to pull out then you don't have to go through me to do it.
