Help an FJ get to the PP GTG 2010

What do you think about icom? They don't make CB's here in the US, but I have one of the aviation NAV-COM radios and I like it. -Ben

I like the Uniden UH015SX Remote Head UHF CB Radio

Can you place the unit under the dashboard and attach the faceplate remotely?

AFAIK Oz UHF's use different frequencies. GME, Uniden and Icom are all good UHFs. Time to use search button

the I-com 400 pro is a very good radio and can be easily re-programed if you want to use it back in the states. can programe anything between 450MHz and 500MHz, send & recieve

I think I have cleared the largest obstacle, but will find out tomorrow. Toyota financial may allow me to take the FJ out of the US for 3+months, so I don't have to pay it off before I go that will clear up valuable resourced (=$$'s) for the trip.

I'm still working on estimates for shipping from Melbourne to the US and insurance. If anyone has any contacts or advice please let me know.

She needs to know the dimensions of the car. width, length and height
That will decide what kind of sea container, as in high top, 20' 40'etc

Thank you. I think it's being shipped out in a 20' container, or shared in a 40'. I will get dimensions soon & PM you. I have one estimate, but it's a RORO and would not allow me to have anything the the vehicle.

OK.

Apparently, because your leaving from Melbourne there are heaps of choices. But I have no idea what the go is, shes the expert. (imports/ exports stuff for people and companies)
For the WA people, she had something to do with getting heaps of cars over for Mr Barbagello ( for non WA people he is a rich car enthusiast with loads of exotic cars)

We have plenty of time, and even more options. One of the options include wheeling from Melbourne to the GTG, and continuing from there to WA. I am wide open.

I was thinking of doing the Simpson Desert crossing, but the wife may want to go less hard core and stick to the Gold Coast, and Barrier Reef, and take the A6/A2 to Alice Springs.

I will get the information and get back to you after the weekend. The Bruisers have a large tree planting event this weekend and I will "out in the sticks" until Monday.

Melbourne/Gold coast/ Barrier reef/alice springs/ WA. Your talking some serious KM's there. People do it, but you'll need an iron butt to do it in a short time. It'd be good tho.

As for the sig, GIVE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Just kiddin. go for it. Not a bad quote But you got my curiosity going. so I checked out your forum.

Have you considered speaking with Toyota OZ about some assistance in return for some publicity?

On a similar subject, when Kawasaki was bringing the new GTR1400 tourer to OZ a magazine contacted Aussiedav. a member of the Far riders long distance forum. He was given a bike to ride east coast to west coast and back as a bit of publicity. did it in 6 days, Stock.. :shock:

I have no idea if Toyota would be keen or not but you never know..
And might even get a write up in something like 4X4 Monthly???

I was thinking about contacting some OZ magazines and 4X4 stores, but as more of an opportunity for them, but not as a sponsorship. The FJ to OZ discussion is always active on the fjcruiserforums.com, but the official word from Toyota is that they will not make it in a RHD.

Our club has made a contact with Toyota and I will ask him directly the next time we talk.

If you know of anyone who would be interested in checking out the FJ while in Melbourne, Sydney or Darwin please let them know.

I would think there would be some interest from magazines. and also accessories shops for a bit a of a draw card and a BBQ.
Even ARB themselves might see it as a plus as they would be a spoke in the wheel of after market accessories for the FJ if it did hit aussie shores as an official import.
Magazines often have trip reports in their pages from international tourers.
Our 2 main 4X4 publications are 4X4montly. they have their own web forum http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/ .
And 4X4 Australia.

And if 2 of you guys come over,,, well, You never know..

Does anyone here have an Eclipse AVN6000 or compatible Eclipse NAV. I need an OZ map disc burned to see if it will work in my US unit.

I used search, but it does not seem to be a popular NAV here.
