    Hi ya Matt,
How's your exploring going? We should try and make a BBQ meet at someone's house early in the new year to see what ideas people have for the trek down.

    Waddya reckon :?:
    Cheers, Leon

      Hi Leon

That sounds like a great idea and gives us a chance to catch up on possible trips this year.

Sorry for not replying earlier Leon. I tried calling you the other day to discuss, but missed you.

Any excuse for a pre-GTG GTG sounds good to me. I do wonder if we should just do a trip and discuss a few of the options at a lunch break. I can bring all the maps and planning from my earlier trip and we can spread it all out for some early planning. But if someone decides they would like to host a BBQ, then hey, I'm up for that too.

Re: Getting to the GTG - from SEQ/Nortern NSW

          Hey Matt,

As you know we're coming from the opposite direction, but because our employer is particularly leave-unfriendly we may not know until a month before whether we actually have the time-off guaranteed or exactly what dates of leave we have.... so we're trying to organise contingencies. Non-school-holidays are a lot easier to get off-work so if we end up getting time-offf late Sept we might head up your way and travel with you south. Sounds like fun but we probably won't be able to confirm until the last minute.

          Cheers, ld

I've been a bit busy for the past few weeks, filling in for other management here while they all wanted time off with their kids for the Christmas holidays so I haven't been responding much and have missed this thread.

I agree, I'd like to work out how long people think it will take to get there so I can plan leave, etc. Looking at some of the responses we seem to be spread all over the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast areas, so a trip or BBQ on a weekend may be best.

Longdog,...would be great if yourself and Liesel can make the journey with the crew.
I'll even give you a Maroons Jersey so you'll blend in. LOL

After speaking to LFaR and Callo the other day. I reckon it would be safe to work off approx a week to get to GTG.
I suppose from all the interest and questions regarding the trip southbound, some people would like to know exactly when the convoy sets off ??? .......me to.

As it's Matt's idea, I can't comment on the details, but from the posts so far, everyone wants a bit more info and to have some input on the trip. I think Leon's & Matt's suggestion of a BBQ somewhere or just a trip/meet up to discuss, is a great way to throw some ideas around. Perhaps this could happen sometime before Easter, it'll give people 6 months to plan for the time off.

As I understand it, the GTG kicks off on Thursday 30th Sept. I'm working off the convoy probably starting on either
Sat 25th, Sun 26th or Mon 27th. The trip south is only 1 days drive from Brisbane by Hwy.
As we'll be taking the scenic /offroad road route,...and we can't rush these things, probably leaving 4-5 days prior is a safe bet at this stage as a guess. As we all need to plan for holidays etc. there will be more discussion about this in the near future regarding the specifics.

As far as a meeting point for a preGTG BBQ, maybe a Sunday at George Clayton Park between the Upper and Lower Esplanade's - Manly. Or further down near the Spit is also a good spot. It's fairly central for everyone, close to the water and has BBQ facilities, toilets and the like. Plenty of parking available also.

Or a day trip back to Mt Mee or Glasshouse for more tracks to explore and lunch to discuss the GTG.
Another could be for an midday bash at Binnies Rd - Ripley again, if people are keen for something different.

What do ya's think ?? open for more ideas ??

              cheers

Re: Getting to the GTG - from SEQ/Nortern NSW

It's been a while since I got back here... been busy coming up to speed with a new job.

I certainly appreciate the eagerness of everyone and understand we had better start thinking about putting in for vacation time sooner rather than later. I will 'steal' some time away to myself in the next few days and draft an itinerary. We can then discuss options and hopefully pull some dates together pretty soon.

                Cheers,

I agree it would be good to catch up, if yuor'e planning a day trip, pick one without custom pin striping trees I should be picking up my 150 series this week and it would be nice to see how it goes without breaking something first trip out, I'll leave that to the second trip out.

My vote would be for Binnie's Rd at Ripley - we could then BBQ somewhere down the road. From memory a few k's down the Boonah Rd there's a picinc ground.

                    Cheers,,

Re: Getting to the GTG - from SEQ/Nortern NSW

                      Fozzy,

I've got no problems with going to Binnies Rd at Ripley again. Matt and I went out there a month or two back and had a ball with another couple of fellas driving a 90series and the other had a 4inch lifted 100series.
The tracks there are alot of fun. It's almost like a mini Landcruiser Park in a way.
I got out relatively unscathed with only one bent side step.
I wouldn't recommend driving most of the tracks without a 2inch lift though.
Many of them vary in difficulty from Medium to Extreme.
The best part is the whole place is free and there's no signs about not being able to enter.

I don't think Richoson would want to take his brand new 150 out there, I felt slightly nervous about my 120 going through.
Perhaps we could just work on the Lunch stop idea at a convienient location.

                      Cheers

                        OK,

Scratch that idea, rather than the vehicle - the 2" lift for me is still some way off.

Re: Getting to the GTG - from SEQ/Nortern NSW

Progress for today... the first draft from from Beaudesert, QLD to Dalmorton, NSW (approx. half-way) is ready for your feedback. I've also drafted a very rough route from Dalmorton to the GTG at Riverwood Downs.

Most importantly, this is just a draft and intended to foster further discussion and feedback. Don't hold back now .
                          1. Travel Time:[list:2ztov5tn]
                          2. Travel time from Beaudesert to Dalmorton is about 2.5 days, with an early start from Beaudesert.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]
                          3. Hoping to arrive at the GTG feeling relaxed, I'm guesstimating we will need 6-7 days total travel time.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]
                          4. Those with significantly less time, could join-in at designated locations along the route.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]

                          [/*:m:2ztov5tn][*]Accomodation:
                          • Camping on the riverbanks is free and camping in national parks is very cheap.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]
                          • Some campsites have basic facilities (e.g. long-drop loos), some have no facilities.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]

                          [/*:m:2ztov5tn][*]Options:
                          • There are many opportunities to join (or depart) the route along the way, as main-roads are never too far away.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]
                          • There are also plenty of campsite options, so we can choose to stop early or drive-on longer, as desired.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]

                          [/*:m:2ztov5tn][*]Communication:
                          • There will be no mobile phone reception, including 3G.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]
                          • Satellite and maybe HF will be the only way to communicate back home.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]

                          [/*:m:2ztov5tn][*]4WD Grade:
                          • The forest trails and farm roads are well used and maintained.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]
                          • The main route is easy 4WD'ing and may only occasionally require you to lock the diff.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]
                          • There are some fire-trail options and ample side-tracks for those who enjoy the unknown.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]

                          [/*:m:2ztov5tn][*]RSVP:
                          • If you are interested in participating or just curious, please send me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the route plan.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]
                          • I'm using Google Maps for planning, so hopefully this will make it easy to collaborate.[/*:m:2ztov5tn]
                          [/*:m:2ztov5tn][/list:2ztov5tn]

For the SEQ Crew, I would be very interested in either a local meet or day trip. Would be great to meet up with a few of he crew again. I have a few camping trips booked in for the next two months or so, but should be able to squeeze a day trip in. Looking forward to the trip for sure as I have never been down to NSW via alternate routs so it should be an eye opener.

As stewy mentioned: "Lend you a QLD Jersey"
Maybe we should all take our QLD State Of Origin jerseys down to show to our NSW comrads in arms where we are from. It would be unmistakable for sure. And a good talking point/photo op.
