You may also want to flick the time travel switch too Max, if you want to go back to 2001
Mind you, I wouldn't mind turning the old time clock back ten years either 8)

SE QLD: is it going to be dry in time or should we bring a dinghy?

Despite many people thinking that SA would be a good choice, I was the only SA member in this thread that gave any indication that they would be happy to be involved in organising the event (feel free to correct me if i missed someone). Queensland however has a fair sized group of willing helpers.

                    Mates,

I like the direction of how this thread is going. It went from the 'pick me' and 'lets go here' to 'lets think this out'. MAV has done a splendid job of putting the GTG's together along with the help of others that are not as visible. We also have the owners of the forum to satisfy. This has gone from the attitude of wanting to GTG and see faces with the names to an actual sponsored and sanctioned annual event. This complicates things a lot.

I would like to show up to this one and I wish I could of made it to this past years event, but with a new job and commitments to a larger event took me out of contention. My position puts me in a unique situation to where I can seek sponsorships, not only from MAXTRAX, but US vendors that want to expand into the OZ market.

I have organized larger off-road events in the US and I would like to add that larger events are more than hard to plan. They require a large personal monetary outlay that will never be recouped. It's not something that is done casually, but would compare it to a semester in Uni or a temporary fill time+ job. As for locations there are regional places and venues that are worth traveling to some things that have to be considered. With no one from WA showing up to the last GTG should send a hint of what could come if an event is held in WA. Don't get me wrong. I believe WA & Tazzy are among most beautiful places on the planet and something I want to see, but we need to look at the center of population, ease of access, and attendees holiday schedules. The East Coast has the population and better travel network to get there. It allows time for those with shorter holidays time to get there, attend, & back to work, and those with longer time off to take an adventure getting there like LF&R does every year from GC, and Team WA did in '09.

Timing is another concern. Mav planed the '09 GTG with 16 months to do so and we have already started 2011 without a hint of an announcement. We are also losing possible attendees to wedding, and planned holidays and possibly more without a concise plan.

Good luck to the powers that may be and keep me in the loop.

                      Re: 2011 Pradopoint GTG ????

I planned the 2010 GTG in the NSW Hunter Valley.

I managed to get about 45 odd cars attending (around 50 including the trip leaders and organizers). What blew me away was not the WA guys (and further afar) that due to the global financial crisis fallout, could not attend; it was the masses of local members on the east coast of Australia that did not attend. We planned the event with over twelve months lead time and kept everyone informed of destinations, requirements and planned activities. Still, I know for a fact a number of members located in Sydney (less than 3 hrs from the event) that did not attend.

As for financial outlay, I guess everything you have stated is correct. We spent days scouting the tracks and areas prior to the GTG and we did hundreds and hundred of kilometers sorting out the event. So before anyone leaps into the drivers seat, plan and get ready for a solid twelve months work.

                      Regards,

Maybe a daytrip... but I would think there are nicer places to base the group.
I say that, but I haven't been part of any of the SEQ conversations regards hosting this event yet so can't comment for them.

                            Hi Folks

We are all missing something. The specific trips can be fine tuned later. The place and time needs to be established first, a committee formed and planing started, as a suggestion if it is to be Qld then the time should be around September, school holidays, great weather and hopefully no floods.

My experinece in organising events for over 100 people tells me a decision needs to be made very quickly to ensure an event as successful as last years.

                            Regards, Richo.

Another thing we can look at is that if it's in SE QLD I can get Dirty Weekends to be a possible sponsor. I have good working relationships with them, MAXTRAX, HEMA, Tough Dogs, Kaymar, and several other OZ companies.
