I just don't want to be a burden on anyone and have to extracted because I am towing a camper trailer. Just been using Google and see that it is only 29km of track that would be missed if taking the easier option. Sounds like I will asking a lot of advice and seeing what others do and which way they go.Tasmania 2015 GTG Committee Member 2005 Prado Pilbara, Sovereign Bar, Driver & passenger weathershields, UHF TX3220, Spare wheel spaces, Lifestyle rack, Genuine front & midrow seatcovers, Genuine front & midrow rubber floor mats, ARB 47 litre fridge/freezer, Hilux washer jets, BF Goodridge A/T, Radiator protection plate, Dual battery tray and isolator, ARB 2.5m awning, Rhino heavy duty areo bars, MSA rear wheel bin, MAXTRAX

VK - you will actually be missing around 100 km of travel, plus the over-night camp, if you avoid that leg.
Rest assured that the committee will not be throwing up challenges which are not do-able. We will also be attempting to work on alternate routes to cater for varying levels of ability. I suspect that a lot of us will be towing. Out of the committee members alone, I know pretty much all of us are towing. We are factoring these variables into account. It's all a lot of banter going on here. The trip will be awesome and you won't regret itDiesel Prado with various things...

Last year we took three trailers down the Border Track, Myself, MLC and Mal56 from Vic, There are a number of large dunes on the track but 2 in particular are monsters. MLC and Myself cleared the first monster dune with the trailers, Mal had to be recovered to get over it. The second monster dune none of us made it, I came pretty close, about another 15 metres would have got me to the crest, mal was about 10 - 15 short of the mark I set and MLC................. its too painful for him to hear again so I won't mention it
We are still in discussions as a committee as to what requirements we will place on people wanting to attempt the Border Track with a camper, but I think it is fair to say that completing this leg with camper and no assistance is almost impossible unless its raining and the sand is rock hard. Those with low power (1kz), low experience levels or a modicum of common sense will find enough challenge in towing along the centre track.
As said before there are chicken tracks around those monster dunes, but if that is your default option then the Centre Track is the way to go.

For those interested the trip report from the Border Track with the trailers in tow is here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...gust-26th-28th The first 125 posts are just us talking crap about what we were going to do. From post #126 we are still talking a lot of crap, but is mostly about the actual trip.
You might like to know that driving through the mudholes like Mal did id not compulsory, unless you are slightly insane.

Luv the Trip itinerary fellas,... it all looks very promising.
Just been looking at all the recent pics and 'WOW' outstanding stuff.
It may just be that I get stuck somewhere on the 2012GTG,....possibly needing assistance.
That would be a first.
Then again I should have the new vehicle by the GeToGether, which ever way I go it should be a more capable vehicle this time round.
Note. The FJ is still on the cards boys as a possibilty.
