  • Attached are a few pics of a fantastic Recce weekend, just to wet the appetite....! Great to meet other PPers and do some amazing drives. If the weather is as good for the GTG as it was this weekend it will be an occasion to remember.

Thanks to all involved for making it a great couple of days.

      • Some beautiful photos and scenery up there! Looks like mother nature turned it on for you all.

Depending on the purse strings, these images alone might be enough to convince me and mine to come across the water to the 2014 GTG yet... Will be watching the details closely as they are firmed up.

That would be great if you can go as it will mean a 100% increase on members from Tasmania attending the 2014 GTG and double the number that attended the 2012 GTG.

                  • After we split up on Sunday, four of us were going to head out to the Buckland Valley for another reccie on an option we have in mind. It is one of my favourite tracks in the area and a ripper roller coaster (needs to stay secret for the GTG) but it was almost closed. Well it looked like it had a road closed sign across it that someone had tossed aside. We did the right thing and continued on the logging Rd for option number 2. Fortunately this was not closed but has been touched up with some fine dozer work that has turned what was definitely a top ten 4wd track into a top five. This track was un-describably beautiful with cobalt sky, red dirt and the views. Did I mention the driving, it is steep enough that if it does not alter your heart rate, it is because your dead. This is one track I am going to recommend petrol autos not try as you will not be able to control them. Some of the humpies on this track would be over three metres high and slopes recorded at 37°. Two of us went on from here to Blue Rag Range and I have some bad news for the lovers of this track, it has been destroyed. A 4wd and tourist icon bulldozed out of existence. You could take a Subaru up there now. not just a Forester but the Liberty. They have bulldozed the rock and covered it with a mix of clay and crushed rock, looks like it is ready for a coat of bitumen. We were lucky the run in on the black dirt was affected by a snow dump that had mostly melted. Sliding down the track, I was wondering how much winching would be involved in getting back out. Overall Sunday had some of the best 4wd I have done and it would be the best full days 4wd driving for years. Nobody going to next years GTG is going to regret going.

I was afraid blue rag highway was upon us. Seriously anything that isn't easy or medium rated it getting dozed and rocked. I just hope they don't doze the long steep track that's a little rough - (no names sorry).
Glad you enjoyed the weekend & stayed alive
