Seems bit quick to be a 2009 model isn't it? 20 days from start of year to delivery date. Seems a very short period of time for a car to come off the delivery line and arrive in Oz?

I had the same though... so on the contract of sale it has 2009 compliance added onto it with a couple of other changes. Will find out Tuesday if I give them the cheque or not.

Remembering it may not have been on the line, could be a stock model that was in stock or arriving in a number of days on the boat.

It will be a Dec '08 build date and a Jan '09 compliance. When you buy they tell you it's an '09, then when you sell it's an '08.

We just bought an '09 Corolla and I had written in the contract of sale Jan 09 or later build and compliance.

Spot on! One of the oldest tricks car guys play! I found out the hard way - bought a Jeep (well found out the hard way twice!) and was told that it is definetly a '2005' model - and was shown the compliance plate.

Now, I was a little naive and took that as it was, and since found the build plate which says built in Nov 04. That is what they go by on resale etc etc.

Also found a couple of websites (Aus sites) that said the same.

So beware! It is safe to say that if you put '2009 BUILD' on the contract then the compliance date will be after the build date so sweet! Also a lesson here at the start of the year for everyone.

Sure enough. Got the reply from the salesman Build 12/08 Compliance 1/09.... Straight to the lawyers. Stopped everything pending legal advice as the salesman had confirmed several times that it is an 09... Decided to call Consumer Protection while waiting to hear from the lawyers. Spoke to a guy in the motor vehicle section. He knew the legislation off by heart as they have so many complaints about it. A car with an 09 compliance plate was manufactured in 09 according to the law no matter what it has on the build plate. The wording is:

"date of manufacture" means the date the vehicle is available in Australia in a condition which will enable an identification plate to be lawfully affixed to the vehicle
                .

He indicated that this date is also required to be used when trading a car in or reselling it but suspects it is not used.

Unfortunately I have already signed the contract stating 09 compliance. Will be writing 09 build on it next time. Thanks for the advice. Lesson learnt. Pick up the 08/09 tomorrow afternoon.

Yup - can agree with that! Waited 4 months for mine, had 3 delays, some issues with the paint pre delivery that took 3 weeks to fix and picked it up without the dual battery (which was also supposed to be installed pre delivery) so had to go back - but it was all worth it!

Sometimes works to buyers advantage too.
Ordered a Honda Accord Euro a few years ago, in 2004.
After several months wait, when it eventually arrived in December 04, it was 2005 spec - different "red" (better), different color interior (better), bigger wheels (better), other bits and options, all for the same price.
The difficulty was trying to get a 2005 spec but 2004 built Honda insured. Insurance co eventually settled for 2004 model with a list of standard extras :?: :!:

The next years motorbike models usually are released in August. EG July 08 is an 08. August 08 is an 09 model.

Ordered mine November 2008, picked her up a week ago. Build date Nov 2008, compliance 01/09, registered as 2009 model and importantly insured as a 2009 model.

Best of all though there was a price rise for the '09 model and lucky for me my delivery date was contracted to be 24/12 which obviously didn't happen therefore the dealer wore the increase.

The $1600 or so has paid for my lift kit!

Good work but speaking from experience when/if you sell the dealers will trade-in as '08
