I recently sold my 2002 petrol Prado and now looking to upgrade to a 08 or 09 turbo diesel auto. I have heard horror stories about some of the later model 120's so was wondering if the 08 or 09 models fall into this category. Any advice or thoughts or links to reliable reviews would be appreciated. PoppyG :?:

Re: Looking at buying a 2008 or 2009 Prado diesel
What are the horror stories you have heard? There was an issue with the Injectors but that was in the early model common rail and these should have been changed over. The later common rail have new design injectors which fixes this issue so th 08 and 09 diesels will be awesome and trouble free.Nick

Re: Looking at buying a 2008 or 2009 Prado diesel
Hi. All rumours and happy to be corrected. Fuel economy was very average as a result of an increase in body weight and drop in engine capacity and torque not as flash as one would expect. Some review mentioned an inheritant problem with the auto transmission.

The common rail injector system is designed by Bosch, Germany and licenced out to Denso. Also designed around the EN standard, low sulphur diesel (50+).
Hope this helps.Greg - 08 D4D Prado,

Hi all, This is my first post so go easy...
Im looking at a 2008 standard D4D, manual, 70k serviced every 10k, 6months rego, white, dual battery, bull bar/ sidsteps / cargo barrier and roof rack.
Its going for an NT AA inspection (we're in Alice Springs) - the guy wants $26900.
Does this represent a good buy , my research says its not bad - so am I missing something????
Thanks

The cheapest 120 series models in Brisbane currently go for $26-$27,000, so yes it's a good price. It's good that you're having it inspected for peace of mind too. The low k's would make it a very attractive buy, not to mention the accessories.2005 120 series V6 Grande, 2 inch susp lift (King/EFS combo), 32 inch MT’s, Safari Snorkel, rear diff lock, breathers, Light Force spotlights, UHF, dual batteries.
