Just wondering if anybody can tell me if the 2005 grande high beam is positive or negative. Just bought some spotlights and pre wired harness and the wiring diagram says if pos or neg but can not find it anywhere, it is probably something simple.

Re: Positive or negative high beam
My spotties were hooked up for negative switching, which meant splicing the negative lead on the high beams.William

Re: Positive or negative high beam
Toyota headlights are switched negative.
3 wires - 12v+, low beam, high beam
with head lights off you will meter 12v to ground on all wires
with low beams on the wire that meters 0v to ground is the low beam switch
with high beams on 2 wires will meter 0v to ground
the high beam wire will have 12v on low beam & 0v on high beam
wire your spot light relay from battery positive, through the dash switch, through the relay and onto the high beam wireGlenn

the 150 head lights had me stuffed, metered it and thought +ve switched but when I wired it the lights come on with the parkers, wired it as if -ve switched and they come on instantly. Ended up wiring the relay in paralell with the high beam globe (from one wire to the other), all sweet now.
The -ve switched post above was from experiance with the 90s and my 2010 D4D work hiluxGlenn

Can someone confirm if the 150 is + or - switched. Seems a couple of different views here. Also, can someone take a photo of where the switch wire taps into the high beam wire? Or at least Describe which wire it is (colour/location etc).

Ok I can add some clarity to this. Just installed a set of IPF 900XS and the 150 is definitely positively switched for the high beam.
Only 2 wires feeding the high beam globes, white and black. The black wire reads 12v when the high beams are on so tapped the IPF trigger wire (yellow) into that one and everything works perfectly.

My 2009 D4D is whatever Matty&Loz says it is. This whole damm +ve/-ve thing confuses the utter $#%& out of me. I'm still coming to grips with the electric triangle diagram Matt explained to me about 18 months ago............Bitumen: A blatant waste of taxpayers money!

When I fitted my Hid spotties, rather than cut into the headlight wires to find the Hi-beam power supply to trip the relay on the spotties, I removed the Hi-beam relay in the engine bay fuse box and by trial and error picked up the terminal that receives power when the Hi-beam is activated. I then "plugged" the bared wire into the relay block and plugged the relay back into place over the top. All works well and no cutting and splicing required, crude but effective. I used a premade wiring loom from ARB Sidewinder from e-bay.
Hope this helps,
