Funny thing it broke down after 2 days ownership. Startermotor failed. All replaced with some swaring at the exhaust manifold but done so i hope thats it. Any way great site cheers

Thanks Fred 63. We are really looking forward to exploring and learning what our rig can and shouldn't do. I hope we don't lose the anticipation of new adventures and meeting new people as time goes on. Cheers.

New Member intro from Stormtrooper and family

    Hi all,

We purchased our 2009 GXL Prado D4D Auto from the auctions in December 2013 and it was a dirty, plain rig with 186,000 kms on the clock.
We drove it from Brizzy to Sydney and started mods almost immediately after a wash and interior clean at some car wash joint in broad beach as the missus was adamant she was not driving to Sydney sitting in that filth!! The car came with window tint, factory tow bar, sovereign bar, side steps and some shitty car mats. Oh and a 180 L long range tank!!

Over the period to now we have added a few pretty well standard mods including ,

    Wet Seat covers
    Safari snorkel
    Max tracks
Imitation Sand grabber mats trimmed to fit
Red arc duel battery system and aftermarket tray
    Cargo Barrier
UHF radio( mounted in the small tissue box holder inside the centre console box) Is this a new spot? Will also run an external speaker but can hear fine with the volume turned up and the lid closed!!
    GPS/ Stereo/Reverse camera
    Roof rack with awning
Second hand centre console and shiny new silver dash inserts from the wreckers
    Dash mat
    Window shields
    Headlight protectors
    Tough Dog 2" lift
    Opposite lock driving lights
    Rear floor mat from Supercheap(awesome)
    Scan gauge
    CAT secondary fuel/ water separator
Sovereign bar winch cradle and Grande MK 111 12,000 pound winch with Dyneema rope
    LED interior light kit
Rear Anderson plugs and two 12V cigarette style outlets
    First Aid kit
    Air jack
Compressor (supercheap brand but runs pretty good)
    Tyre deflators
Awesome kids seats with six point harness and side impact shells.(Cant remember the brand but will edit later. Small shop in Cabramatta was the bomb.
I think that's about it apart from the Storm trooper sticker i am throwing on next week as we reckon the white rig with the wheel arch guards look like Armour.

The car runs great with as low as 7.5 L /100 on the freeway and around 9L/100 around town.

Looking at TJM under body three piece kit next week and some diff breathers.

I have one pic of the day we got the rig but didn't take pics of mods because I am a lazy, forgetful peanut sometimes!!!

We live in the Southern area Sydney and will be looking to join a FWD club any day now. Education and meeting new people cant hurt!!

Great to be here and we look forward to learning about our rig and yours and hopefully contributing any tips or handy experiences we have had or will have.
Apologies in advance for poor punctuation, and generally not knowing much about FWD mods!!

Also seems i accidentally posted in the wrong thread instead if the intro one. Can it be moved there?
    Cheers

thanks steve, it ended up being the rubber cable gland in the firewall on the drivers side - my lovely other half helped me pull a cable through it under considerable duress yesterday (sorry but standard 15A/4mm cable to the rear accessory outlet isn't up to supporting a fridge) and in the process pulled this out of the firewall and only after I took the newer larger auxiliary battery out thinking I had done something wrong and put it back in did I see it. I believe you are right about the exhaust - its amazing how much noise is under that bonnet!!!

Nothing to do Ross with fuel. You will also find it was probably there before but you didn't notice it and had your window up. You were probably more aware now you own it. My bet it's the exhaust manifolds fluttering away like they do under acceleration like a leaking exhaust manifold. Extremely common in all the V6's worse on the first of them. Toyota supposedly modified them in 2004 but they all do it, some more then others. Don't worry about it just turn the tunes up and enjoy. If you were closer I'd let you take mine for a drive and you will hear the same thing. Mine is 05 my mates is 08 and does it as well..... Cheers Steve

hi all, we have just bought a 2006 120 series vx from a lovely first-owner widow who was sad to see it go but couldn't justify a 'big car' now she is on her own. we love it - our 1996 pajero while still running very well is becoming hard to get parts for and we wanted a more reliable tug to tow the camper and boat with and on our way past the 'urban saleyard' we spotted this one and now its ours.

I do have question first up though - today we went for a drive and any time under acceleration there was a chatter on the drivers side in time with the engine revs that wasn't there before. I have done a search but only found an article on changing over to high octane fuel (we filled it up late last week with 98) - we don't know what fuel the previous owners used but it seems there can be some issues with timing in the prado petrol engine if one suddenly changes up to 98 from standard unleaded (source - Land Cruiser Owners On Line - http://www.lcool.org/technical/prado...tane_fuel.html ). Before we rush off to toyota can anyone confirm if this could be a contributor?

    cheers,
    ross
