Hi all.
I have been viewing the forum for a while with envy but have been unable to register ( don't know why ) until now. However the wait has been worth it.
I am based in South Wales, not the local one to some of you sadly but the one in the damp and cold UK.
I have had a 2010 Landcruiser LC5 for 3 years now and find it great, so much more reliable than my former Range Rover.
Looking forward to implementing many of the suggestion and ideas on improving my truck.
I am a keen 4wd'er and got my rig in 2010. I have been slowly adding to it, whilst feeling a burning sensation in my back pocket (where my credit card lives). These are the specs thus far...
Model: 2006
Year: Grande Turbo Diesel
Colour: Silver
Accessories: Dual battery, BMV702 battery monitor, tow bar, roof racks, 60L ARB fridge with drop slide, dual drawers, tunit chip, ARB deluxe winch bar, magnum 10 winch, ARB 2.5x2.5 awning,
Wishlist: Snorkel, suspension upgrade / lift kit, UHF Scanner/Transceiver, onboard compressor, ARB air lockers.
I live in Maroubra with my family and love getting away to any beach for a cruise (and surf) as well as exciting inland 4wd'ing tracks. Love any thoughts (or links on Pradopoint) on upgrading a Grande suspension with a new lift kit (hopefully keeping height adjuster and dampeners) as well as air locker recommendations.
Hope to go cruisen with some of you in the future.
Hey Baz , if you're from the north side of town it may be worth talking to Darren from TJM Brendale cause he might know someone than can give you some advice & help over your way cause he looks after pp members( & others of course)
I am from just north of Brisbane in sunny Queensland.
I am Prado-less for the first time in nearly 13 years. I have/had a 90 series GXL manual turbo-diesel for the past 370,000 kms. It has taken me to lots of fantastic places. Unfortunately two weeks ago it started using lots of water and overheating; my local mechanic has advised me that either the head gasket has gone or the cylinder head is cracked. Either way it is off the road (not in a good way) til some expensive repairs.
The final specs for my rig were -
Model: 90 series GXL manual
Year: 2002
Colour: white
Accessories: TJM body coloured steel winch bar, warn winch, spotlights, GME UHF, ERPS rustprotection, dual battery with IBS monitoring, ARB rear locker and compressor, full length roof rack, awnings, towbar, rear drawers and halfheight cargo barrier, standard steel rims with BFG A/Ts, Safari snorkel and OME 2inch lift suspension with airbags at rear.

This is my Prado:
brand new 2002
our first trip to the centre, here she is at Palm Valley
Boggy Hole on the Finke River NT
So now I have to decide whether I can fix my old girl or do I bite the bullet and get a new vehicle. Has any members had experience with cracked heads or blown head gaskets on the T/D prado? Has anybody had experience with mechanics/shops that may do this type of work? (I hope that isn't against forum etiquette).
Hey all been here for about a week and just found this thread.
Bought my first Prado about 6 weeks ago. Bought it for 2 grand unreg and put some new feet on her, some tail lights and repaired the rocker cover leak. Now its registered and i have one happy wife (yay for me!) Unfortunately i've lost it already.
She is a 97 GXL 3.4L V6 with 200k on the clock. All in all she is fairly clean rig so i'm pretty stocked. Just have to fix the sluggish motor!
Model: VZJ85R
Year: 1997
Colour: Green over Silver
Accessories: Hella Chromium Spotties
Hella 16 LED Worklight
Hella 12 LED Reverse Light (My best mate works for hella so i didn't pay for any of these!)
Wishlist: New suspension and unsure if i'm goin to raise it or not. (May put a small raise in the front to level her out)
New radio
New UHF ( I really like the one with hidden wiring under the seat)
Front Bar
Toying with the idea of a supercharger.
ARB compressor
Lots more but with utter certainty i will not have enough cash for any more.
Welcome aboard! What are you planning on doing with the car?
Cheers. My days of trying to compete with a mountain goat, or wading waist deep through a mud hole after getting bogged just because it's there, have long gone. At this stage I'll just be doing weekend trips to country areas, so the next bits will be a bullbar & seat covers. I'll see what else is needed asI go along. Over the next couple of years I want to end up with a comfortable cruiser with enough bits to get out of trouble if things turn sour, then I"ll be looking to do a few major trips as I head toward retirement.
Hi all.
I recently purchased a 2014 GXL diesel in Graphite, my first 4wd in about 15 years. My last off-roader was a early eighties Patrol diesel wagon, and before that a series III Landrover that I converted to run a P76 V8 & Borg Warner 40 auto trans. Early days were spent in Series II Landrovers with 186 conversions, an FJ45 & an International Scout
I must say I'm enjoying the comfort & smoothness of the new style 4wd's, a far cry from the kidney shaking I remember.
So far the only extra's are tint & towbar, however I'm sure the bank account is going to decrease over the next few years, especially if I keep reading the build threads.
I'm looking forward to getting back into some out of the way places again (after I re-learn how to drive using the modern technology).
Bought my first Prado about 3 weeks ago. It's a 2008 GXL Auto Diesel. Came with an ARB bar and an Anderson plug. Has 130k kms but in excellent nick!
I like doing dirt tracks camping and boating! I mainly bought it to tow the boat. So far, love the car. So smooth!
