    Blackwolf turbo lite.

Goes up quick, dunno if its as quick as the Oztent. No hassle to pitch single handed. Fits across the back of the prado with room to spare.

BCF has specials on these every now and then (special sizes too) You should get close to 500 as long as you stay with the smaller versions.

Dunno about you, but deadlifting 20+ kg onto the rack is a chore. We put the tent in the back and the light stuff on the roof.

        Thanks for that.
That looks impressive for that money and isnt too big and heavy.
Its very big, might see if they make a four man version.

not sure if this is any good, i just read it in an anaconda brochure:

DUNE Fraser Cabin Tent $349 (Reg $549.98)
          Sleeps 8, weight 19kg, Dune 4WD 2 room design, steel/fibreglass pole mix for strength, heavy duty 150d fly 420 x 320 x 210 cm

Says you can buy online so maybe have a look there. stores in nsw are located at lidcombe, moore park, penrith, rockdale, west gosford

anyone see anything wrong with the specs on this. for that price it maybe ok as a backup to the van etc for short stays if its ok. only problem i see is the number of poles, but the majority are for a fly over the top so if the fly works properly when set up it could be worth the hassle ??? copied extra specs and details off website down below

          OR

maybe seeing as its just for you travelling on your own, maybe you could buy the Deluxe RV Shade ($199.99) and add a Boundary Swag for $159.98. thats got to be any easy setup.

pics and specs on their website www.anaconda.com.au

This is one tough tent! A two-room cabin-style hybrid dome tent that sleeps four in comfort but could fit in up to eight if you're good at packing, the Fraser Tent by Dune is a good sturdy little home for longer stays. It has lots of ventilation so it's perfect for summer or hotter climates, but has been made with high quality materials providing a superior level of waterproofing and thicker walls, doors and floor, making it suitable for use during the rainier spring and autumn. It also comes with 20 steel and fibreglass poles for superior strength, stability and durability. The canopy and rain fly are of heavy duty polyester and the 320 cm x 420 cm floor is of polyethylene. There are four doors, three of them external. The packed weight is 19 kg and it all comes with a 24-month warranty. A tough tent for a tough team.

There must be a standard formula for sleeping capacity, BlackWolf quote similar numbers for their tents but in reality if you want comfort you can divide by 2.

Only comment on the Dune tent picture above (is that different from PradOZ's example) is it looks like it has a centre pole. That could be a PITA.

the one i am talking about is different. it has a fly over it. also the front awning has screen sides plus an awning (the fly) out past that. would be good to see in real life to see how it is set up etc. there are images on their website, go to

I know they are expensive, and you need a set of roof racks, and they are about 2 metres long when packed, however, they are pretty quick to put up, pretty good quality and easy to expand upon with zip on bits and pieces. I have an rv4 with all the attachments, picked it up on ebay, used once, for $550, which I know is a bit of a score. I have now purchased the Foxwing Awning that is made by Oztent(and Rhino), and the tent zips directly to the awning. We are off to Cape York next June, and after heaps of research, umming and arrrring, we reckon this will be the best set up for us.
In saying that, we had a Primus Extended Tourer Tent, which was fantastic, easy to put up and really good quality. The only negative was it was a great big awkward rectangle when folded up. It sat vertically in the back of the Prado, but took up a lot of the available space. The Oztent on the roof is going to give us a lot more space inside the car.

The tents just keep getting bigger and bigger

AAAAAHHHHHHHHRRRRGGGGGG...............Too many options, Im not sure which way to go now

I think this idea may suit me and maybe I will just use my little 3 man tent (actually not even big enough for 2, actually not much bigger than a swag!!!)

Is anybody using one of these shades?
Im not so sure I like the suction cup method though?

We have a 'bus tour' type tent from southern cross -expensive but great. 4 pegs in the corner and centre pole so full stand up. More pegs if it is windy. I know that cheaper versions are available. It is better to have windows that you can zip from the inside rather than outside.

Coolbanana....I saw a note/email or something where Coleman were about to release a quick tent in Sept. They are not an OzTent but would be less costly I am sure.

OzTent also has the Jet Tents now which do pack up shorter....even more than an OzTent from memory unfortunately.

As with anything always get the best you can afford but don't place yourself in debt doing so. Only spend the big dollars when absolutely certain!

I have a Black Wolf (easy as to set up and pack up)...but just a note on the "Jet Tent" (made by Oz Tent)......I had two Jet Tent owners set up beside me in different camps when we were on our trip across the Simmo in July....first one was at Birdsville and the second at Bourke on the way home.....and the reason I say this is that both of the owners said to me that they should have bought either a Black Wolf OR an Oz Tent as the Jet Tents were crap.....apparently (and this was from both guys) they were failing in the joins and as such leaking water, zips buggering up and some other things I didn't take note of.

So if considering one of those do your research!!

Mine is a 270 lite....now really regret not getting the 270 lite PLUS.

Others on my trip were using the 300 plus, but IMO these are too big to be touring tents.....my 270 is ded set...roll out....walk in...pop up....4 corner pegs.....slide over the fly...clip in at four points...slide in a little awning (very small only to keep rain out).....and done......I can get the whole thing done in 2 1/2 mins....and half of that is hammering in the four pegs. Longer to pack up but still only about 5 or 6 mins.

We did a 26 night trip and the tent went up 17 times....also fits perfectly across the back (we removed the rear seat....kids all grown up now).....worked a charm cannot speak highly enough about them.

Given where we went we also wanted to have nothing that could get dusty on the roof....one vehicle had an Oz Tent but that was inside a pod...otherwise all you'd get was a gut load of bull dust every time.

We kept our roof basket for spare tyre, jerries, gas bottle and a space case with my spares.

that is great feedback with the Jet Tent......off my list now!

As I said do your research...I have NOTHING against Jet Tents...in fact looked at one but the cost was prohibative....and admit (considering they are made by the same company as Oz Tent) was surprised to hear this...I dismissed the first one as a "one off" but then when the second guy said to me "you made a smart choice"...and then mentioned the same problems I thought...jeez for $1300 I'd be spewing if I had bought one.
