Winch Choice

Mine is a TJM 9500LB with cable and has never let me down. Had it on 2 vehicles, I reckon it was worth the money. In saying that I reckon a lot of the more affordable winches sound as though they are pretty good and represent great value for money.

I've got one also - And the Tigerz are one of only a handful that can winch down a hill backwards without binding/locking. Something to do with the gearing. Mine has 2 speed, but I only use the low speed when winching. Only ever used the high speed for winding in the synthetic rope.

The 2 speed wasn't out when I got mine, but I do love that idea of a higher speed for winding in the cable. I have only ever used mine to pull me up a hill when I done a tyre, other than that it has only been used to pull down trees and other garden chores....lol

The 2 speed wasn't out when I got mine, but I do love that idea of a higher speed for winding in the cable. I have only ever used mine to pull me up a hill when I done a tyre, other than that it has only been used to pull down trees and other garden chores....lol

Was talking to Tigerz11 and they said they dont do a 2 speed winch anymore.
Too many problems with people taking them apart to rotate the gearbox.
The little added complexity by having 2 speeds was enough for people to stuff it up and they ended up with too many warranty claims.........hence, they dont do them anymore

How many winches actually bolt onto the bar at the bottom. Most would to the front of the bar hence you have to rotate the free spool handle.

For the amount of times that I've had to use it (on a couple of occasions I was well and truly bogged) it has paid for itself 4 fold (about the price of a new Warn 9.5 XP). Was also handy pulling out a couple of 20+ year old tree stumps to boot!

Would I buy another one, yes! If I had the money for a Warn would I get one.....NO! Why? Seriously, the Tigerz11 is well worth the money and service is second to none.

Actually I think most of the American market vehicles would be mounted as shown in the pic.
Come to think of it, even my mates 100 series cruiser bolts straight down, not to the front like ours.

in times of need I have used my winch on different vehicles mounted both ways and had no problems. As mentioned, bolted base forward makes more sense to me, but mounted base down still seems to work!!!!!!!!

I've got the 9500. I was told it is exactly the same winch except for the gearbox, which makes the 12000 slower. If I do run out of power, I have the a snatchblock to turn it into a 17000, but for the smaller jobs I have the speed of the 9500. I've never had a winch before and no real experience with winches so I can't make any valid comparisons but everything feel fine for me so far. Time will tell.

I meant to ask about the gearbox rotation to suit the Prado.
The importer told me the current model cannot be turned 90 degrees to suit the front mount we have (the new red one can).
60 degrees may be adequate to work with the ARB bar though.
So just wanted to know how you got on with that?

Yes it cannot rotate 90deg but it came close and will work just fine

Seen these in the latest SCA cattledog
On close inspection they look suspiciously identical to the Tigerz11!
Same castings, same motor and end cap, same gearbox shape, same funny handle that Ive only seen on the Tigerz11 and the specs read identically, just a different colour.

Anybody got any clue?





Also these ones on ebay, also identical (but without rope), identical specs too.
