Am I expecting too much from my installer?

Here's one we discussed before the install and was told that they install the TJM T13 bar with a bumper cutout, I've seen it done both ways and the bumper cut is probably neater (although now that I've seen their rear bar cut...). I questioned the black panels and was told that's how come and I can take them to get painted if I want them to match the rest of my panels. WTF!?!? Apparently because I asked for the TJM bar, I should know how it's supplied and ask for the infills to be painted. Hang on, you cut the original bumper? Nope.

I'll be taking it to a TJM installer to confirm if the issue with the front bar rubbing on the infill panels is a problem with their product or the installation. I did get to test out the bash plate on the weekend so maybe that has something to do with the bar hitting the infills but that gap just doesn't look big enough to me.

That gap between the bar and infil panels should be more like 15 mm. Not sure about the 150s but I know the 120s bars move a lot in relation to the body(or is it vise versa?)

The more I look at your photos the worse it gets, I'd be really pissed off. Whats really disappointing is that this sort of "workmanship" seems to be getting more common, its like the people doing the work have a huge dose of I Don't Give A Shit.

I agree with a lot of the other posts, you really need to stand your ground on this and get it fixed. I think you are on pretty firm ground in demanding a fix. Like I said, if they agree to fix it demand to know who will be fixing it as the last thing you want is the same person taking out their frustrations when they do the repair.

Best of luck negotiating a settlement - you may wish to have a third party undertake the repairs/replacements based on this shoddy workmanship.

I cant believe this is considered acceptable, most of us hacks could do a better job with just some care and attention.

My question is how do they get to say the products are professionaly installed,what training or qualifications do you need to be "a professional installer" answer zip,not knocking any people out there that do installing for a living but a friend of mine got a job as an installer and his only previous experience is tyre fitting so it may pay to buy the products and get trained mechanics,auto sparkies and panel beaters etc .. to do the installations or you could take them to your local tyre shop

Max I feel for ya buddy. Thats really disappointing. What is even more disappointing is the owner of the business thinks that crap (because thats what it is) is acceptable. I would have lost it and probably smacked him in the mouth if he told me that.

Wow, that is a shocker. Funny is but a few extra minutes taking time to read instructions and 'finish' a job and you would of been a happy customer...

In the Hayman Reese bolt kit for the 150 is about 1 foot worth of pinch weld, this is to hide a cut around the bumper bar however that cut is a shocker... uses a hack saw. They might need to invest in masking tape, nikko pen and a compressor and air hack saw. Use a razor to dress the cut and then put on the pinch weld, looks a million dollars.

The TJM bar has also not been fitted right, first of all it is to close to the infil panels, don't worry about off road as if you cross train tracks it will rub at that gap. The zip ties on the inside inner guard are a shocker, TJM give you 3 x bolts, washers and nuts each side to better lock it on. They have also cut the drivers side to short and the same time you cross those train tracks will be about the same time that the zip ties pull through the inner guard plastic.

I would also be checking to make sure there are 4 bolts per side on the mount that goes from the bar to the winch mount frame on that car as I would almost bet my left nut that it will only have 3 bolts per side holding it on. Which in this case you might be lucky as you then will be able to adjust the bar down and drill the lock off holes to stop the bar moving when doing serious off road work.

Just my 2 cents, I would not be accepting that and I wish you the best of luck in having it rectified.

I am saddened to see the endless list of less than quality workmanship.

Let us know how you go after complaining to the relevant authority. Most in the industry should tell you what is the right way. Whatever you don't succeed in can be dealt with in this forum. There is a wealth of knowledge on how to "fix things.

My two cents starts with the bumper cut. You ould apply some corrugated split tubing aroud the cut to give a neat finish. I suggest 13 mm to compensate for the gap size.

i would be checking the attaching points on the tow bar before i put a load on it....last thing you want is a bolt coming out and lossing a trailer into another car

If what you can see is that bad, what are the things that you can't see like? I would have serious concerns about anything this crew has done, have they done the electrics properly, installed correct size cabling and appropriate fuses, is the towbar and bullbar fitted securly and with the correct grade of bolts? what else have they forgot to put back on your car?

You might need to get someone independant and profesional to check everything out thoroughly to make sure it is all safe. Bad enough that you got ripped off with some of the worst workmanship I have ever seen, even worse if their shoddy work causes you more greif down the track due to failure, and we all know Murphy will be around when things fail.

Max, that is all disgraceful, I give the dealer a timeframe to rectify everything and if not completed 100% then I would be talking to their head office, as they are certainly getting a bad name from this dealer.
