  • Muti-function Display

I have a 2005 v6 auto GXL.It came standard with the clock and outside temp display only.Does anyone know if this can be replaced with the Muti-function display that was also available for this model.I heard they were plug and play and therefore interchangeable.
    Any help or advice appreciated.

I'm assuming you mean the trip computer display?

I have often thought about the same thing for my 2005 GXL diesel, I'd be keen to find out if anyone has tried fitting one and how they went.

Yeah would be interesting. Nine times out of ten when you pull things apart you see extra wiring looms here and there, like the instrument cluster, you can see the things on it for the grande like the hi/low etc for the suspension. Same for the aircon condensor fan under the bonnet, the holes, wiring loom etc is all there just need the extra electric fan that they use in the VX, Grande's and the series two 120's with duel air, $650 for a new one. Not worried about it now.......If you go down that path dont forget to post up and let us know how it goes. Wonder if the trip computer etc would all work ok and is there a difference between say a diesel or petrol instrumentation. Might give toyota a call and see wether they are different part numbers....Can anyone with a grande diesel send me there chassis number via PM (not on here) I can get the chassis number for a petrol grande then I can give both to toyota parts where I use to work and see if it comes up with the same part number. Its heaps easier with chassis numbers but would possibly need to be prior to the 07 update just to start with.......I will see how I go anyway without numbers.........Cheers Steve

You may find the wires there, but they will be connected to nothing, so there will not be the sensors there to gather the data.
For instance, my 97 grande, when I put the bull bar on it, the wires for fog lights was sitting behind the front bar, now fog lights did not show up on the Prado till the update around 2000. The wires were not hooked up to anything, they were just there, so I would safely say, that all models have the full wireing done, it just depends on the spec level they decide on, later on down the production line as to what they connect up.
97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

Yeah true croozza, now you have said that I remember fitting the sahara bar to my 97 grande and thinking beauty I will just hook up the additional lights in the bottom of the sahara bar to the loom already there for the lights without checking inside first where I then realized there was no extra switch on the blinker stalk to turn them on like my 2001 grande did for the bottom spot lights your referring to. Your probably write and yes wires may be there but nothing hooked up at other end for the dash instrumentation (grande style). Would be great to get hold of one without paying for it just to try it out.Cheers Steve

            Justin,
Which part of Adelaide are you? We could try my trip computer on yours.

Yes Justin I was refering to the trip computer display.I was thinking along the same lines as Steve.I was originaly looking at buying a Scangauge. This lead me to thinking that as the scangauge worked from the OBD11 port, maybe the spare wiring loom for the trip computer display was conected as well as i asumed they would use the sam signal imputs.

                AMTS,

I'm way down south but when I have some spare time I wouldn't mind trying it out before I start looking at getting one from a wrecker so at least I know it would work, might see what Steve comes up with re part numbers etc for petrol vs diesel before we get too serious about trying it. Do you think it would be relatively easy to remove/install?

From my understanding all modern vehicles have all of the sensors etc as it is a part of the engine management system so if the plugs are there I would imagine it would work.

I've taken the centre console off a few times now. Should take about 5-10 minutes. Putting it back will be longer as there are a lot of cables that needs to be tucked into its place.

                        Average fuel use
                        Range (km to empty)

                        Travelling time (useless function)
Electronic compass (I've referred to it a few times so it's not completely useless)

Watching this too, with interest. The trip computer was only available on the base-spec 120 in the UK. The Grande equivalent (LC5 designation) only has the clock and outside temp. I'd be keen to add in the whole shebang to mine too.

                          Cheers

Every time I've tested it and seen my range get down into the 10s of kms left, I've still been waiting to see the fuel light come on, and when I've filled up there's been at least 20L still in the tank.

Still, it could be useful I guess.

the part number for a v6 2003 grande is 83265A computer accessory meter and is listed as $853 on the www.toyodiy site so it will be more than double that at your dealer . mine has it my old mans 2005 doesn't , he wasn't happy with that . i reckon the range computer is brilliant i barely look at the fuel guage . it also tells you if you back out of the throttle a bit you'll extend your range .
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !
