I feel you have summed it up really well there Andrew. There certainly are many 'groups' on PP - that will always happen with any forum and isn't a bad thing as long as it isn't exclusive.

I have 'met' many new friends through PP, some local, some further away (that I will probably never physically meet). Human nature says you will feel an affinity with some people and not others. It's no different to joining a face to face group (like the local 4WD club).

I guess I probably fall into the 'PP Nutter' group

Thinking about the community within the community comment, well yes there are many samll communities with Pradopoint. None are exclusive, anyone can join, some are formal some are not.

There is actually a section for small groups within PP, not that it is used much
    http://www.pradopoint.com/group.php

Then there is the community that attended any of the GTG's, or any PP trip for that matter.

No doubt people in each state tend to have a bit more of a connection then those interstate.

Meeting any other PP member in person makes a big difference, I always take more note of posts from people I have actually met, I can put a name to a face and a personality much easier, so people who have met in real life are another sort of a group.

Those of us that frequent the forum on a daily basis are a sort of a group, the hard core PP nutters if you like, wanna join, just visit everyday and join in!

And finally, this thread seems to be about those with a lot of posts chastising newbies, however on closer inspection it seems to be more about those that post a lot being chastised for offering search advice to newbies, so its the long term members that are copping the flack, not any newbies!

    Cheers Andrew

    Hi Guys
I have learnt a lot over the last couple of years via the forum, I don't ask too many questions as I do actually "lurk" and read a lot of information that has already been posted. I am certainly not offended by people that give advice and direct myself or others to where they can find the appropriate information.
Those of you that have the knowledge and share it on the forum have to be commended because without your experience and knowledge those of us that do not have the experience end up coming to grief or become a statistic due to doing something stupid!
For those that are offended, lighten up guys, enjoy the forum, read lots and often!
    Cheers Guys!
    John

The owner of this forum is not the slightest bit interested in improving the search facilty, or improving or streamlining anything. What little admin there is on this forum is left to a couple of unpaid members who do there best with such a large forum.

Suggestions have been made many many times, and once agian why would I or anyone else want to bang there head against the same wall over and over again?

so where does that leave us, walk away or try another method to keep things in order, hence the many suggestions to newbies that they search, how they should search etc, etc.

Thats not chastising, bullying, not anything negative at all, just trying to help the best way we can. If people choose to take offense, or to be "horrified" by this then thats not ideal, but such is life. You can't please all the people all the time.

Number of posts really doesn't mean that much in the scheme of things, there are some really good guys on here that post infrequently, but when they do there word is gospel (to me anyway) others have a lot of posts but if you have 700 posts and 690 of them are in the jokes thread then your post count doesn't mean much.

    Cheers Andrew

well said AJ . i have actually removed the pp sticker from my car and stopped promoting pp not for any other reason other than im sick of people who can't be bothered doing the research , asking the same questions over and over again because they are obviously too time poor . i used to think that prado's were the thinking mans 4wd . thank god for people like brett and his cape york report or reports from the GTG or there would be nothing worth reading . you can even go to other sites like Lcool or mr 4x4 and see exactly the same questions asked by probably the same people . think i need a BEX and a little lie down . cheers . hmmm a bit early for that , must be midday somewhere .

Shall we call this attitude evolution? With a theme header as follows. "We endeavor to improve". LMAO!!

How is that all the big posters have an adamant opinion to justify there chastising comments?.. Is this the small community within the community?

Here is something to get upset about and i am not chastising!!.... Or am i?..

    POWER!!!

In order to get POWER you need the MASS!

In order to have the MASS you need the FOLLOWERS!

In order to have the FOLLOWERS you need BELIEVERS!

I BELIEVE the POWER of PRADOPOINT is judged by its BELIEVERS that has its FOLLOWERS which creates its MASS that gives it its POWER!... Not who has the most posts or who has been a member the longest!

So what if you are fed-up of repeating yourself!... Why not put forward productive ideas to the admins/moderators that could stop/reduce repeated questions so that the forum becomes more streamline and reduces such re- accerance....

Question: Why do big company's sack grumpy old farts?.... Answer: Because they are bad for business and loose customers... Or this case for higher numbers in members.

Picking on / criticising or bullying with smart ass banter does not encourage the mass to grow but rather intimidates!

If a new member or low post lurker has been upset for whatever reason then it is up to the more experienced long-termers (With there time and superior experience of course) to be more patient and point them in the right direction with helpful advise in order to help the MASS grow and make this forum create more POWER to which would attract more sponsors based on its MASS which in turn would promote more specials for its members.... Better known as pro-mose!..

EG: GTG 2012 So many sponsors, so many giveaways!!!

I may have come across a bit deep and political but is it about the forum for the community or is it the community that has formed within the forum?

So why don't all yo big posters demonstrate to everyone else how to correct this in-house problem with your years of experience and knowledge to help PRADOPOINT grow.

This run-around bickering is hardly fixing an obvious continuous problem that will not go away but will always surface until smart solutions with a fix are brought forward by those grumpies that will only get more grumpy as time goes on.

Funny how members originally from this forum are popping up on other forums!..... Id call that a switch-over or moved on!

    Cheers

The reason we get upset about newbies starting new threads covering old ground is that, experience shows us that many many newbies join, start multiple threads on topics already extensivly covered, once they have the answers to there handful of questions they leave never to be heard of again.

I just had a look for one that comes to mind, he has 11 posts, has started 7 new threads, so most threads he never even said thanks for the help. He also sent me dozens of PM's asking really stupid questions that he could have found the answer for without much trouble.

And why? Because he is a tight arse trying to save a couple of hundred bucks rather than asking for professional advice, which is fine, except after using up the forum, and me and my time, and who knows who else he Pm'ed, he hasn't visited the forum for the last 3 months.

That is the problem in a nutshell, and if I could be bothered looking I could find hundreds of newbies with similar track records.

    Its the old story.

19% of the people do 80% of the work
80% of people do 20% of the work
1% of people just need to die!

    Cheers Andrew
