Agree, the search on here is useless.

Hey AJ, do yous "warm and fuzzy" members get a special search that works ?

maybe it is just me, but it sounds like the forum needs another sticky which gives advice a guidance of the optimised ways to search the forum to get the best results??

There are a number of methods described above and to a novice they may not know and therefore get less than useful results

It is getting better and I do use the advance option but a better option would be when you type something in the search box at the top of the webpage (not in the advance search page) it only searches threat titles only. This would help newer people and minimize unnecessary threads.

Google search with pradopoint in the text. Works best IMO.

He asked for advice, I gave him what I considered to be the best advice I could, I wasn't rude, I didn't swear, I didn't tell him to piss off, just good natured advise on how to get the best out of the forum. If that is somehow seen as beeing rude, or offensive, or bullying then I am guilty as charged.

If he takes what I wrote in the way it was intended, and follows the advice he will learn far more in a shorter time frame than he ever would by 10 different people replying to his post offering varying advise.

So in future rather than nit picking directly to a persons thread if you have something to say how about a polite pm sent to them makes this Pp scene a little friendlier
And finally, isnt it ironic the statement above, I never recieved a PM to say "hey that was a bit harsh mate" nope start a thread and have a go at people who are genuinly trying to help. That'll make the scene friendlier

No hard feelings guys, just telling it as I see it.

    Cheers Andrew

You guys might be right about the rules, searching, and asking the same question multiple times, but this poor sod didn't get a very friendly welcome to the forum as a result did he, whilst a couple of us got to polish our forum 'rule enforcer' badges.

Richo, you can generally get better search on PP via google using the site: modifier. Try typing this into the google search box:

    Code:
    sand driving site:pradopoint.com
    Cheers

I agree that chastising is not a good thing but I have a saying that use at work " there is no such thing as a stupid question, it only becomes stupid when asked the third time".

As for the search engine I find it to be ineffective when I have tried to use it

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

I pressume you are refering to this thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...-Beach-Driving that I replied to when i posted this

    1. familiarise yourself with the search function, here is a start for you http://www.pradopoint.com/search.php?searchid=558761

    2. read the rules here http://www.pradopoint.com/forumdisplay.php?130-Rules
    this one in particular http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...read-me-first-!

    3. It is considered good manners to at least introuce yourself before asking a heap of questions. Introduce yourself here http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...=introductions

    4. Enjoy the forum

    Cheers Andrew
I am not sure why the first link doesn't work but that was supposed to go to a search I did that showed about 20 threads on sand driving, which is what the thread was about, my apologies for the link not working.

Forums are common place nowadays, there is a forum for just about everything, they all have rules and most of the rules follow a similar theme, search, meaningful thread titles etc etc. If you are not familiar with the rules of an organisation you join then you should be, so I simply provided a link so the poster could get some info that he obviously needed.

Why is it that on the internet someone can walk into a forum and start barreling questions at people with out even putting there hand out and introducing themselves (so to speak)? It would be considered good manners in the real world, so why is it different here?

And quite deliberatly I suggested they enjoy the forum, just to finish on an upbeat note and to let them know I was not having a go, I was just trying to help.

No pun intended Fishfinder, but whats the old saying, give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats every day! I have said it many times before to newbies, search and read; and you will find answers to questions you never even knew to ask.

As for long term members leaving or no longer participating, I am sure they all have there reasons, I no doubt will one day fade of into the distance like others, and new members will come along and add heaps to the forum. I will probably leave when I finally get sick of answering the same questions over and over again for every second person who joins and starts a new thread asking a question I have answered a dozen times before I don't see that what I posted is in anyway bullying, I was just trying to help, unfortunately the first link not working may have skewed that view a bit.

As for the PM, I have done that on many many occasions, I no longer do this, while most people reply with a, thanks mate I didn't know type of response, a few replied with messages that would make a wharfy blush, so I figure better to put it on line, if they reply in a positive way then we all know they are a good bloke and can look after them, if they reply with abuse, we know to ignore them.

    Cheers Andrew

    started a topic Chastising

    Chastising

I read this thread and obviously this person is,as said new to the forum and new to the 4wd's and I thought his questions where fair questions and I too did a quick search on his questions and did not come up with a result but why jump down these new peoples throat ? and then close the thread for further comments ? umm seriously is this not getting a little petty ??? there was all this click here and click there to read the rules but not one place as to where to click pointing this person to where this topic may have been covered ... I have noticed some of the older pp members are slowly visiting less frequently or not at all , could this as I see it "forum bullying" be the reason ? one of the rules from the forum etiquette rules 25. Do not chastise newbies. You were one once.

Practice and preach mean anything ???
So in future rather than nit picking directly to a persons thread if you have something to say how about a polite pm sent to them makes this Pp scene a little friendlier
Working...
