I'm glad to see the situation in QLD is no less confusing than the situation in VIC. I'm having fun trying to get a straight answer on whether my 265/65/18 comply with the rules down here, tyre placard only goes up to 265/60/18 (standard tyres on the Kakadu).

Ring the Dept against Transport and ask to talk with an engineer or technician. I read the regs to say that if the vehicle has stability control (ESC) you are limited to a TOTAL lift of 50mm including suspension and tyres unless approved by the manufacturer (never going to happen) or other competent person after testing (unknown testing regime). Others here believe it reads 50mm of lift and 25mm of tyre is ok if it drives ok.Originally posted by VeeZeeSS View PostJust so I get this straight.... Please post what you have been told....
Roo I agree 250%, the only sense I have got from these gentlepersons was by contacting one of the engineers directly after finding him through other means. It had nothing to do with the Prado but actually some mods on my car.My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

guys,
i've read the guidelines too and this is my interpretation:
section 3.16 of NCOP - VSB14 does not allow any mods unless it is proved either by the manufacturer or through testing that the esc is unaffected OR if affected the esc is recalibrated.
therefore, you can't do any lifts or tyre increases at the moment!
and therefore, the NCOP is actually way more prohibitive than the old standards!
so i wouldn't be too excited by the change in standards yet.

If that is in fact the case, then what about all the Prado's with ESC that already have lifts?Originally posted by gxllouie View Postguys,

Jeff,
from what i can recall reading previously, any work that was carried out legally prior to the adoption of NCOP would remain legal.

Now I'm lost! Back to the computer to try and translate to English, I did read somewhere that NCOP was not adopted entirely but rather merged with QCOP. One thing I will add though, you may have noticed all the tyre manufacturer's advertising the fact larger tyres may now be fitted under the new laws. Maybe they've got it wrong as well?
Cheers,
Dusty

Just checked Cooper website. They state:
For vehicles fitted with ESC please refer to section 1.2 of Code LS9.
So they are erring on the side of caution too.
With respect to lifts - for lifts over 50mm, eg. 50mm suspension + 25mm tyre, QLD has written it's own Code to override NCOP. These are LS9 and LS10 of the QCOP.Silver 150 GXL V6 Auto: TJM T13 bull bar, Avenger Mako TDS 9.5 winch, 2" lift - Bilstein shocks King springs, factory tow bar, Piranha battery tray, Red Arc isolator, E-Nex DC24MF battery, GME TX3540 UHF, ARB 47L fridge, ARB fridge slide, IPF spotties, Tekonsha P3 brake controller

Which is what I posted on page 2. If I get a chance next week I will see what I can find out from the horse's mouth. My 150 build - http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread.php?27423-A-Random-approach-to-a-Bluestorm-150-GXL-D4D-automatic

that would be great - seems ridiculous that all new passenger 4wds (because esc is compulsory) won't be able to be modified.Originally posted by mjrandom View PostWhich is what I posted on page 2. Ok, I think that I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself here....
The LS9 and LS10 codes of the NCOP are only referring to the "High Lift 50mm - 125mm"
Therefore the information in section 1.2 (Design NOT Covered by Code LS9/LS10) does not apply if your total lift does not exceed 50mm in total.
So if you have a 50mm Suspension Lift, or up to a 25mm lift from a larger profile tyre (max 50mm larger than standard tyre dia for ADR Category MC Four Wheel Drive Vehicles) or a combination of both, then your vehicle is legal provided its not more than a 50mm lift.
This still may want to be clarified by a phone call to QLD Transport.
Cheers,
JeffLast edited by Jeffers; 03-11-2012, 06:14 AM.Jeff

Be interesting to see how this all pans out with ESC equipped vehicles, considering you can't buy cars without it any more. I was finally able to have my 70 series tyres fitted yesterday so I'm happy for the time being
