NCOP for QLD finally!

Queensland is finally adopting the National Code of Practice for light vehicle mods. Will take affect 1 November 2012 which means everyone's 70 profile tyres will be legal without inspection/ mod. That is if your total lift isn't more than 50mm.
If you want to go higher, a total 150mm is allowed with mod plate/ inspection, including lane change test.

BIA, wheel/tyre is not allowed to protrude beyond the body of the vehicle. The body of the vehicle can be widened but then you need to be mindful that the wheel track cannot be increased beyond a certain amount. 50mm i think.

OK so I had a look around and couldn't find it exactly but can you please clarify if you know...

I already have a 40-50mm suspension lift. Previously QLD could get a 15mm increase through tyres, has this now increased to 50mm?

The 50mm total lift includes suspension lift and oversized tyres. So if you're going for a 2" lift, you pretty much have to stick with standard size tyres.

A quick look through the NCOP and i found this reference. There's no mention of any differentiation between IFS and solid axle. It's important to note that this is taken from the original version. It does not include any changes that may be made for adoption in Queensland.

4.2.11 Off-Road and Goods Vehicle Wheel Track
The wheel track of off-road four wheel drive vehicles and goods vehicles (MC, NA, NB ADR
category) must not be increased by more than 50mm beyond the maximum specified by the
vehicle manufacturer for the particular model.

If a solid axle from another manufacturer is used, the wheel track may be increased by 50mm
beyond the maximum specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that particular axle, provided all
other requirements such as clearances and the tyres do not protruding outside of the vehicle
bodywork.

Does anybody know if there's a link to a site that specifically states the new rules regarding tyres? I'm having all sorts of trouble trying to get a legal mud tyre to fit to my 150 but by the sounds it might be a lot easier next week. Does the car need to be inspected? Not sure how all this works. Obviously none of the local tyre shops have heard the news because none want to sell me a muddie.

Thanks or the link. About time is all I can say. Too bad they didn't allow 50 mm suspension lift and also allow a change up in tyre sizing. This would better reflect the most common mod change in this area. Maybe another 2 years of lobbying you never know.
