Jeffers the short answer is yes. The standards run in parallel until April next year. But under this regime tyres can only be 15mm bigger in diameter and lifts up to 50mm.

Actually I gave this some thought myself but I don't want to change the 120 yet. Got something a bit special to buy for me mid next year first!

I think sense will prevail. The big guys (ARB and TJM) are going to need to sort this out otherwise they won't sell much gear.

Interesting exercise, I just calculated the difference in tyre sizes on my tyre placard. There is 30mm difference between the 225/70 and the 265/65. I'd suggest Toyota do not change the ESC programming depending on what tyres are fitted and therefore ESC must have a tolerance factor built in to compensate. Bottom line is whoever came up with the ESC paragraph in NCOP doesn't really have a clue.

Are these the minimum and maximum tyre sizes on your placard? I'm pretty sure my Kakadu only lists the 265/60/R18 that come standard, no other tyre sizes listed.

That's because D4D has a 120 and Toyota actually brought 3 tyre sizes for the 120 that is interchangeable between all equipment models. For the 150 VX/Kakadu, you can only fit 18" tyres to clear the KDSS suspension components. Therefore, there would be no listing for the GX and GXL tyre sizes.

If that is the case, we all sit and wait for a suspension company to approve and test their gear to ensure the ESC is within spec.

Maybe not sit and wait so much, but I wonder if we should be proactively write to the major suspension companies and ask them to act on this sooner rather than later....thoughts? Who are the major companies we approach?

Ah, I was not aware of that so thanks for enlightening me. It doesn't leave the 150 VX/Kakadu owners with a lot of choice if they don't want to marry a tyre change with a suspension lift. Just going up one size to a 265/65/18 seems to be too much for the VicRoads boys and girls; they just keep spouting the 15mm restriction which is for passenger cars not 4WDs as I understand the current regulations.

I would like to know their thoughts also. I have just pulled the trigger on a new VX and requested a lift pre-delivery. I have asked the Toyo dealer to investigate also.

So I understand that if you have ESC then basically you can do zip modifications, my question though is how do you know if the vehicle has ESC. I have a 07 GXL Auto diesel and I certainly can't remember all the original specs, Redbook says it has ABS, Brake Assist and EBD (electronic brake force distribution), but no mention of ESC. Does anyone know for sure when ESC became standard on the GXL models or is EBD, ESC by another name?

I have a 50mm lift and 265/70/17 tyres which is below the total lift of 75mm so if I don't have esc then I guess all is legal (I think!!! it's all very confusing)

ESC in Toyota's terminology is VSC.
EBD is Electronic Brake Force Distribution.

If you put your 4WD lever into HL, the VSC light should come on. If it comes on, you have VSC. (I think)
