  • Bloody Spiders!

Okay, enough is enough. Whilst I'm generally tolerant of 8 legged creatures, I can't have harry huntsman biting my mates anymore. A family of them has set up camp in my interior and theres another little bugger in the right hand mirror. I'll sort the mirror out with a plastic bag and mortein. However, has anyone let a insect bomb off in their car to clear the interior? Worried about residue and the like.

    Cheers,

    Reidy

I wouldn't put one in a car as they say to keep them away from any spark ignition areas or they can literally go off like a bomb.
I have heard of a fridge starting back up in a house that was closed up with insect bombs being previously let off in and it blew the house apart breaking windows and doors so I would just try and spray the spider when you see it.

Jeez, Reidy. Huntsmans are harmless, and they don't really eat much.

I'd rather have them around than what they eat.

Nonetheless, I'd shit myself if one of them fell out of the sun visor while I was driving.....

Yep I had one come out of my demister vent hit the sunvisor and landed in my lap at 4.30 in the morning on a winters morning while waiting for the car to warm up (was a Nissan bluebird). Cant remember wether I shit myself or not !!!. Couldn't find the prick of a thing so went inside and grabbed one of those bomb things, for memory I think it was actually for cockroaches and sat it on the centre console lid and let it rip, shut the drivers door. Let is sit there for about an hour then opened drivers door. Couldn't see it and never saw it again but what ever was in there would have been well and truly dead. I have heard of the same comment above about the exploding on ignition, I think they even tell you to turn any electrical items off including fridges but I didn't read the can when I use it, was in the car didn't think of interior light at the time......I friggin hate spiders..........Cheers Steve

I've never had a big problem with spiders, but the day one ran up my leg in the car I squealed like a school girl at a Beatles concert! Also suddenly we are beginning to get some really REALLY big ones at home in the last month. I mean, these things make a scuttling noise when they run along the wall. One was moving around on my blinds the other night and I was in the other room, I had to come and investigate. MUCH larger then my hand span.....

I set of an insect bomb in my old Mitsubishi Express van and it worked a treat. Killed several spiders and one large huntsman.

If your worried disconect your battery

Huntsmans usually don't bite humans, though a brother of mine was standing beside a telegraph pole many years ago, and he saw the huntsman jump off the pole and land on his foot, and it bit him. Squealed like a girl and the spider ran off.

It's more the size and speed with which they can run that is the scary part.

Maybe a bit of surface spray under the dash and under the seats, then close the Prado for the night, and let it ventilate in the morning.

Girlfriend (Lea for those that know her) is a protect wildlife frea..... enthusiast.

Anyway, she will pick up any spider and carry it outside. Her do good attitude and no kill zone around her house resulted in a bite from a red back last year. She was unfazed and didn't even see a doctor. On the other hand I had 3 strokes as i was told the story (joking).

We have a house together that will receive regular pest control by me, but not when she is around. I hate spiders so much I am importing some Napalm from a supplier in Vietnam to ensure the job is done right......

mlc - severely allergic to spiders and snakes.

                        Can't stand 8 legged critters!

Normally if they are in the house, armed with flyspray in one hand, I smash them to pieces with the longest broom I can get ahold of. Bit more difficult in the car.

I too have been known to let my wife 'dispose' of them, but that was so she could cope when I was not around...

MLC friends of ours were the opposite. He could and would tolerate any home invasion by any animal including a cow in the kitchen while she would scream and go into search and destroy mode if there was a spider web outside. We went over to a barbecue one afternoon and a reasonably large brown snake hove into view. He went to the shed, picked up his post hole shovel and gently picked up the snake and carried it to the corner boundary which was National Park/farm. I might add the snake was not happy and had several strikes at the shovel and holder. Wifey was running around like a looney asking if any of us had a gun in our cars or an axe or anything lethal. As said snake was dropped over the fence a scuffle ensued whereby the lady of the house started fisticuffs in order to gain possession of the shovel to chop the snake into several morsels. It got away.

I also wailed Holey snapping duck shit in regards to that monster.

Funnily enough we have a car story in our family that involved a spider probably as big as that one.

At the drive-in a Richlands in the old F100 with the parents as pre-teen. The movie was on and through the windshield we see four finger long legs. Dad hits it and realises that spidey is inside. Mum screams and throws the door open, into the car next too us - huge dent. All we found was a leg and the people next to us were ok about the damage we caused. Never found the rest of that spider and the rest of movie wasnt really watched...

Husband used to leave me to do the dispatching whilst squealing like Ned Flanders (him, not me). However he has toughened up and now remains calm whilst emptying a can of mortein onto them. Except for snakes, I think he would move out. I am not much tougher when it comes to them either.
