I've noticed that a few of these cameras suggest that you'll be able to see the number plates of other cars. You'll only see number plates on other cars on playback while the cars are stationary at close range. If the cars are moving, or more than about 5-10 metres away, you'll need special software for post-processing of the footage. It's the post-processing that makes the gopro/contour/drift video's looks so schmick. The playback video is actually fairly ordinary.
Still, if you've got the footage which shows the act, and can write down the number plate of the other car(s), it'll be enough for the cops to go somewhere with the investigation.
