I've noticed that a few of these cameras suggest that you'll be able to see the number plates of other cars. You'll only see number plates on other cars on playback while the cars are stationary at close range. If the cars are moving, or more than about 5-10 metres away, you'll need special software for post-processing of the footage. It's the post-processing that makes the gopro/contour/drift video's looks so schmick. The playback video is actually fairly ordinary.

Still, if you've got the footage which shows the act, and can write down the number plate of the other car(s), it'll be enough for the cops to go somewhere with the investigation.

Hi there D4D Im going to go in tomorrow and just see if they have any in stock, for that price I will mount it on rear window at least to catch any tailgaters if need be. So sick of people sitting on my arse while I'm doing the speed limit. I find lately because I have changed my driving habits (for the better I think) seems some people are not happy doing the speed limit. I was one of them who was probably sitting over the limit by say 5k not all the time but probably a majority of it, if you call that speeding then I was guilty of it. But now with all these mobile camera's around and their leeway is minimal like pinging people doing 4k over then I'm not paying these clowns there wages. So now Im dead on the limit or a k or two under and if the person behind me don't like it, stiff shit go around me. I have been using the cruise control heaps lately and will make sure when we update the wifes car it has it as well. Even now we have one of those new safety/redlight/speed cameras up from our house on the main drag and I had a car cut up the inside of me and I new he was over the 70k limit but the way it worked he would have passed me at the exact same time as we crossed the intersection, so quickly glancing in the mirror no one behind me I gave the brakes a good hard jab so he crossed the intersection before me so I wouldn't be in the picture and sure enough the camera went off and got him. I don't trust them one little bit hence me wanting a camera with GPS so I can cover my arse if need be. Wife calls me driving miss daisy now, told her she can walk if she likes or drive herself lol imnd you she doesn't speed at all so think she has just got used to my previous way of driving which wasn't bad but I was a bit impatient. Must be getting old lol......... Cheers Steve

Most video editing software allows some functionality for enhancing the quality of the video. Some of the common programs (aside from Windows movie maker) are Adobe Premier, Pinnacle Studio, and Cyberlink Power Director. These can be purchased fairly easily, or "obtained" from a torrenting site.

It's not just a matter of pressing the "make this look good" button. It will take some knowledge of the software and a bit of skill to be able to make pretty video's. My knowledge is only very basic, but i think there a few people on here who can help.

Very poor video quality. Will be taking back tomorrow and getting another one but different type around the same price and see if its any better, if not will get my money back. Even close up and set on the highest resolution the quality is not good at all and doubt you would be able to use this in court if needed. Would definitely show an accident in front of the vehicle or involving say my vehicle but suppose could be useless for proof as not clear enough. Even when I pulled right up behind a ute coming into the carpark while waiting for a car to reverse the number plate was not readable. Also takes for ever to down load when using the highest setting but that's to be expected........Cheers Steve

THat's pretty poor quality, Steve. It's like VCD quality (for those who have bought stuff from Bali, you'll know what VCD is.)

Have a watch of this Steve, this was captured on the cheap itronics camera from the site I told you about. A small compilation of some things when we've been driving (filmed in a golf). Also the night time one with the guy running the red was a p plater and after handing it into police they identified the number plate and fined the driver, the only reason the video was passed on was because he was driving like a lunatic abusing people and jumping on the brakes infront of cars.

Sure the golf didn't have ""try and hit me on it"" lol, bloody hell there was some close calls especially that white lancer I think it was. Bet his undies were discoloured after that spin.......Im going to try this one again tomorrow as I just noticed as I was about to put it back in the box the lens with my big dirty finger print on it so may have affected it plus will make sure my screen is 100% in the morning.....How much is the on your talking about ?? .........Cheers Steve

Might exchange for this one if the cleaning of the lens doesn't work. This is the little uniden one seems quit clear. Cheers Steve http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOC2Y...layer_embedded

Hi there Steve, no the one I have at the moment is a cheap $70 unit from officeworks that I just bought today and will try again with it tomorrow after the lens is now clean. If its ok this camera will be put onto back window and the one I have ordered which is the Blackvue will then be used up front as I want GPS in it as well. If this cheapy I have got is no good tomorrow I will return it and try the uniden unit out and it will be used on the back window...........Forgot to say Im also running a class 4 32Gb I bought today. There was no mention of anything higher when I asked them today. I presume yours is the ultra slim card like the one I bought, very very small not your normal standard size ?? Cheers Steve

There's enough detail in the officeworks camera to show what happened. I wouldn't rely on a camera to get a number plate.

                          Here's a blackvue recording http://s189.beta.photobucket.com/use...2497e.mp4.html

This is the one I have, http://www.autoblackbox.com.au/index...&product_id=68. It's made by itronic...

Yeah it's scary how much things happen and honestly once you get your camera in and with every incident if you store it somewhere you'll be gob smacked by how many close calls you have.

Your dead right, the guy in the pulsar was an extremely close call and I'm lucky I wasn't in the prado e cause she wouldn't have stopped Like the golf did.

The memory card will be as important as the camera, try and get a class 10 cars (they are the black ones usual led called ultra etc) as they are for HD recordings. I use a 32gig class 4 card in the camera in the golf and to be honest it's shit, when I put in my 32gig class 10 card out of my go pro the recordings were so crisp and the actual unit was so much quicker to turn on etc because once you fill the card with recordings it will really slow down.

Thanks Steve, will make sure when I get the new one I get the better card. Spewing I spent $50 on the one I got yesterday, have opened the packet and used it so cant return it. Not sure if I change the camera over today (if the one I have now is no better) wether the uniden unit uses the slim card or not, will have to check it out I suppose. When I asked them yesterday they said the 4 that I was getting was the biggest. I got it from JB Hifi (card that is). I would imagine the place Im getting the good camera from will have the better cards like the one your talking about.......Cheers Steve
