18650's are pretty common these days, you'll see more listings for these than AA or AAA rechargables on flea bay, some even cheaper than NiMh AA's, and as UncySpam said," if you treat them right "and charge them properly, you'll get more bang for bucks over AA's

Winston I have a few P7s but go back to post #25 and see how it compares to the EA4 which is a little fatter but much the same size and also cheaper if you buy from the US. Scary better and battery life for the same output is still as good.

I also vote for the Ledlenser a great torch and the batteries life compared to the same size mag light is huge. I upgraded my old mag light to an LED version using this http://www.amazon.com/TerraLUX-TLE-6...s=maglight+led and have been very happy with the results. It has a much better light output and the battery life has increase multiple times..

I was able to borrow a few torches from the local shop, try them out before I decided on my purchase.

I eventually bought an Olight M3X and Im very impressed.
It was the scope mounted option
              http://www.jpt-australia.com/lights/olight/M3X.htm
              http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/...2x18650-Review

The others I tried out over a few nights were
Wolf Eyes Sea Lion (Nearly as good as M3X, excellent build quality but getting pricey for what I wanted)
Lightforce Pred6x (Very Good light, but only uses one 18650 battery)
Lightforce Pred9X (I didnt think as good beam as Pred6X, and cant really be used for an everyday torch)
Note, these were all for scope mount, so they included either lanyard or wireless remote switches.

That EA4 and EA8 looks pretty impressive, but the shop didnt have any, and looking at specs would be a bit too bulky for use on my rifles anyway.

The Olight didnt come with a charger or Rechargable batteries, but most other brands do.
It uses either 3 x CR123 or 2 x 18650 batteries. Most good torches use 18650 batteries these days.

My advice is not to buy cheapies on ebay in China, as you may find they are ex Laptop batteries that have been recovered and then being bundled up with cheap chargers and sold as a package with torches.

If spending good money on a torch, buy some good Panasonic 3400 mAh batteries that have built in overload protection.
(I have no affiliation to this seller, just randomly picked)
              http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221198007...84.m1542.l2649

Then a good quality charger for about $30 that includes Cig lighter option, and you wont look back.

If want to really get some good advice, go to Candlepower forum. They are seriously serious about their torches over there.

Overall, this Olight M3X is a great lightweight torch suitable for hunting and also everyday use.

I really hope you guys exercise a bit of care and responsibility with torches like these. Many of them would be classed as laser products and as such, well and truly capable of burning retinas (includes through reflection). Last time I was out camping quite a few people were carelessly flapping powerful LED torches about the campsites. Doesn't take much to point a torch down if there are other people about. The only LED torches I use these days are the ones from my cordless tool kits 'cos the batteries last an eternity and also work with other tools that can come in handy off the beaten track.

                      Fido

I paid $160 which included the scope mount, the lanyard switch and a hip holster etc. I should point out that mine is the M3X XM-L2. Its 1000 Lumen model (on max power).
There are also 700 Lumen models(M3X XM-L) being run out on specials on internet.

I see Outdoor Warehouse has 1000 lumen for about $130 or $150 with the additional extras that I got listed above.

I bought mine from my local gun shop.
                      1. He let me take a selection of torches home for the night to try out before deciding
                      2. He carries them in stock, and was reasonably priced
                      3. I try to support my LGS, otherwise would have to travel 50kms to nearest town to get supplies. Shop in local town where I can.

I used mine last night, mounted on scope. Excellent for what I want, could see clearly well over 300 yards. I even dropped it in the mud to christen it properly.

                      Hope this helps
                      Cheers

Sorry. Didn't mean for that to sound condescending. Just sick of having to put up with selfish twats. Much like having to put up with an ever increasing number of HID headlights in the 'burbs.
