Yeah, they seem good value. He only started using them when Yokohama stopped making Super Diggers years ago.

The dealer looked at it, threw it on the very small stack of others, and handed him a brand new one. I will be seriously considering them when the current Yokos (which aren't bad either and actually have a warranty, unlike Coopers) wear out. One Canadian gentleman on one of these rallys expressed surprise that Coopers were so highly regarded over here because they don't sell well in the states, and yanks regarded them as "just a tyre" and "export only"
These were on a Surf I purchased in 2001 - did 50 thou on them and the didn't even look half worn!!

But, I did have weird brake shuddering problems with that car. Balance and skim would fix it but it would be right back after 5-10,000 k's....

Started to suspect either wheels or tyres..... but ended up selling the vehicle

I second AJs comments re the BFGs. Never let me down or given me any grief with heaps of trips through the centre and Kimberley. As for the Coopers.....still wouldn't touch them with a barge pole following my massive failures with the ATs a few years back.

Is that 65 or 70 series tyres? I have the 70's which are a bit more expensive.

I have always had BFGs but after seeing my mates new Bridgestone D697s I'll be going those next. They do make a 265/70/17 however it isn't listed on the website.

Just to balance it a bit.

I have now done 130,000 on a set of Grandcraps and Cooper ST's. The Grandcraps have probably done 40.000 and are at the wear limit marks. The Coopers 90,000. They seem to have at least another 10-20,000 left in them. They've been to the Cape, Simpson, Flinders, Ayers Rock as well as more local trips.

I'll be replacing them with a set of ST Max's when they finally go.

Did the run around yesterday looking at tyres here in Tasmania and very surprising results.

                  Bridgestone store- D697 $274
                  Bob Janes- D697 $269
                  BFG $330
                  Jax- BFG $326

Have been running the BFG's and need something new to go away to the GTG and just don't know what to go with. $60 per tyre between the two brands sure ads up when buying 5.

Easy decision, the D697 are a far better wet weather tyre, which in TAS is kind of important The D697 have stronger sidewalls than the BFG, which for low pressure rocky track work is also important. Much quieter due to the tread direction being more north south than east west like the BFG. Pretty sure he fitted 275/65R17.

Just to throw another one into the mix, Yokohama Geolander GO12's. The bulk of their 45,000k's have been on the roads out here (they have endured the roads/tracks without issue) and hopefully i'll get another 20,000 out of them but Golly has got about 100k from his. They also come with an excellent warranty.
Just make sure you get LT construction. The ones i got for my car are LT, however the ones i got for the work car are not
Our 6 year old and 3 year old try their hardest to make sure there is no time or money for the other baby

have to admit I am becoming a fan of the D697`s. Cooper`s have never impressed me , just go hard after a while and don`t work on any wet bitumen. At work the Hilux was running Coopers St Maxx for 12 month, after many complaints its now on BFG mud. If you don`t have to drive on wet and slippery roads like here in Gippsland they maybe alright.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.

Personally, can't complain about the run we've had from our Cooper AT3s. They were on the prado when we got it, but have done over 40K since then, and still look to have good tread left. Been on some muddy tracks here in Tassie and surprised me, as they did at Sandy Cape recently and in the Simpson.

I am on my third set of BFGs on 2 cars and they have never let me down on far worse roads than your trip will cover. That said the South Australian roads like the Oodnadatta Track and roads in the Flinders certainly cause a fair bit of chipping of the tread. Also they tend to get harsh when they age- mine are currently at 50,000 and down to 4mm, are chipped and getting harsh but the conditions they have done a lot of the 50k under-loaded at highway speeds and a lot of outback dirt- with no problems mean I will get another set soonish.
