Actually there isn't a gross amount of truth, we're having this conversation because you're unable to adapt to change.

You'd be surprised at what critical infrastructure you use every day actually runs Windows.

      XP's Demise

Windows 7 and 8 are extremely stable and reliable. XP wasn't to bad considering it was the first consumer OS based on the NT kernel.. They had a lot of 98 compatability issues to deal with moving to the more secure NT kernel. XP was enhanced with SP2 which at the time made it quite reliable. It's now what, 12 years old and people are complaining that it has problems... How many 12 year old Prados have no problems?

        XP's Demise

Ps how many people realize that prior to XP windows ran everything with admin rights - so all software had complete control over the system. XP was a great first attempt as fixing that massive problem.

Would you fly on a commercial aircraft that ran on windows?

It always makes me laugh how some people get so mortally offended when anyone dares point out the blatantly obvious about windows. Yes I am surprised at how much critical infrastructure is run by windows, especially when the inevitable failures occur and people get into a tiz and demand to know what went wrong. "It runs on windows. What did you expect?" lots of excuses from IT types but of course they love it because the work will never end. The same with anti virus suppliers.
Yes I will remain a ludite and stick with systems that just work.

Guess I'm too old that don't want to change things I'm used to until be forced to. Still remember installing Win95 via 25 floppy discs, so exciting. First meet Win2000, that's a Waoo.... Then XP, well last longer than I can remember, through the most hated Vista age. Then 7, because all new computers come with it; then 8, same reason, just as no other choice. The thing is, when my 9 year old realize that he can use a Windows computer with his fingers, he then never go back to his Win7 computer, and figured out everything he need in Win8 very quickly just like on his iPad, and started teaching me the tricks...

.. and Apple aren't much better. We had to replace a printer attached to an Apple. It turns out that you can't get drivers for any of the new printers that work with our version of IOS, so we will have to replace the PC as well as the printer.

                  Planned obsolescence annoys me.

8.1 runs perfectly fine on a desktop. Right click on the task bar, select properties, click on the navigation tab, tick the box 'When I sign in or close all apps, go to desktop instead of start'. And Ta-Dah... It works 'almost' like normal. Just don't click on the "Start" button on the bottom left corner... It's not what you think!

The trick is pin your programs to the taskbar, or use shortcuts on the desktop.

Meh, maybe it's just me but I love my W8. Albeit I got rid of Metro ALL TOGETHER completly uninstalled it. Got a start button installed and it smashes W7 out of the park for what I need it to do... I liked it so much I went and got a W8.1 Microsoft Surface tablet.

Guess it is like saying I'll stick with the 90 it's more stable than the 120 or 150
I like W7 and W8.1 is on the laptop I have at home. If it were touch it would be much better.
I think if the APP store gets close to Android or Apple it will be a winner on tablets, but that seems a long way off.
Cost of licenses and software is killing windows being compedative in the tablet market.

I'm not mortally offended, in fact I am quite amused at your lack of knowledge in this area. Good to know you're staying a luddite.

Like I said - mortally offended IT dude.

Windows is flawed. There are other systems that are far superior. Its already been stated here for example.

Denial is not just a river in Egypt.
