  • Which way would go? Landcruiser DC V Ladncruiser 200

So I've been pondering this a little while now. More a hypothetical than actually doing it though. I've been thinking about Toyota's 4x4 range and now none of them really meet/tick all the boxes. Hilux not having much space or pulling power of the bigger cruisers.

    Would you:

    A) Buy a Landcruiser Dual Cab GXL
Have the leaf spring rear converted to Coil overs

    Good:
    All ready a Dual cab
    Looks pretty tough
Plenty of aftermarket gear for them

    Not so good:
    No auto availability

B Buy a 200 Series and have it chopped and the front converted to Solid axle?

    Good:
    V8 twin turbo diesel
    Auto
    Better cabin/more space - arguable?
All ready two tanks on some models for long range.

    Not so good:
Gotta have it chopped to be Dual cab
    Buy price is more

All right go, pick the cr#p out of my idea.

First question, why do you want a twin cab over a wagon?

    Cheers Andrew

I bought a 200 about a year ago after driving the Dual cabs at work and the single cabs and 76 series I just found them too agricultural.........great bush truck's but not comfortable on long hauls and the dual cab is very cramped in the back seat department.....suitable for kids only IMO unless on very short trips.

I'm happy with the 200 so far,it is a big heavy bastard thou and you feel that weight when cornering......mine has KDSS and I'd hate to drive one without it.

A twin cab conversion has been on my mind somewhere down the track aswell.........I'm pretty happy with mine the power is good and the whole thing feels solid even when you hit a washout towing the boat it just soaks it up and stays stable.....the motor just feels strong and it's effortless towing,

It all depends on your use I guess........doing lots of off road proberbly the 79.......but as a 50/50 the 200 has it in the bag IMO.

      Dan
      Can I still play now I have a 200 series?........Had a 2008 120 Series D4D Manual 6 Speed...STANDARD White, Soverign Bar..........Rear Cage........Dashmat.......GX Wheels with Good Year Dura Tracs........Bilstein/Dobbo 2'' lift.....Safari Snorkel....Canvas Seat Covers.....20%tint..........55W HID Headlights.....Mudmats front and rear.....
      22'' Lightbar......

If your travelling round aus towing and offroading inbetween I would be going for the 79 series witha set of recaro's. Simple strong donk, air con, power windows, large fuel tank and strong manual transmission
If your doing the school hols thing and have the money for the chop, the 200 series would be nice round town with auto box horses for courses

My dream rig for travelling round aus kid free is a single cab ute with an ali conopy on the back, dinghy on the roof, roof top tent and van.
And this is my dream ute...Click image for larger version

They are a big 4x4 the 200, maybe leave the axle swap out and just give it a good lift???

Yeah I've driven the work Troop carriers, great off road and rugged, but long term ownership I don't see. Prado wins for ride quality easily here.

            Ute I can:
            yardy work tip runs
Dead animals from hunting in the back
            Quad bike
            Stuff from bunnings
            Sand/ rocks/ gravel

But none of them come close to the comfort of the Prado. I'm prolonging the hate of trailers and having to get one for yardy work.

marks 4wd drive adaptors do a 6 speed auto conversion about $14k aaaand
Wholesale automatics also do a 6 speed conversion but with carpet soundproofing console as well around $25k drive in drive out
I have a 79 series single cab and the V8 is quite addictive with its low down torque and pull all day attitude, bit agricultural but I have optioned mine up to be very comfortable and good to work on, would find it hard to go back to a 4 pot
Any questions have a look at www.newlandcruiser.net.au

An auto conversion sounds good. Leave the leaf in the back if you're gonna be carrying lots of weight

I heard they use a bit of oil too, even from new. But I reckon if I could get an auto conversion in a gxl dual cab or wagon done I could almost convince the wife its a good deal before they stop making them.

Yeah I did a 2'' up front ant 1.5'' in the rear with Kings and dobinson springs with EFS struts/shocks........I'm glad they went coil over fronts instead of the torsion bar from the 100......much stronger.........I did the lift my self and compared to the Prado everything is twice as big and heavier.

The dual cab cruiser was up on my cards before the purchase of my BM, it was shot down by the missus. Her reasoning was that she didn't like the inside because it had that old look and feeling to it.

Do the 70 series still have that awful cramped footwell on the drivers side or did they fix that up? Long drives are a pain when you at sitting skew like that
