Remember when mine blew up at 73k. It had extended warranty. They wanted me to agree to pay for all the costs of removing, disassembling, inspecting, re-assembling and reinstalling if they found nothing wrong. I knew mine was buggered so it wasn't a worry. That little ex cost them $12K and me about $4K and loss of the vehicle for 8 weeks whilst it was in the shop.Dave

But the dealer told me that the washer was split.. The car didn't lose a drop of oil on my driveway overnight but had no oil in it when it was stopped . RTA clean up crew said there was a dump of oil on the on ramp to the freeway and then it dispersed as speed increased...so I reckon it dumped all the oil on the freeway..

They always slug you a couple of bucks for that washer each time they do the service. I've had the same washer for the past 12 months since my extended warranty expired and I do my own servicing and it has never split. But they did stuff all the bash plate bolts by over tightening with the rattle gun.Dave

Eric Oil sampling ... ive mentioned it before but ignore at your peril.
I worked in the oil industry for many years im also a business owner in the auto industry
Now if there is damage to your engine it will be in the bearings wear surfaces. Once the damage is done its not reversible and will only get worse in time. The small particles of main/big end bearings or other metal parts will only increase as the engine deteriorates.
My suggestion is if they insist you take the vehicle get your oil sampled. Oil sampling will advise you of a deteriorating engine or otherwise. It will put your mind at ease and over the next 20k or sooner will ensure you get a resolution. If you do this whilst staying at the dealer in question you wont have an issue. If nothing shows in the way of excessive metal particles over the next 20k you shouldnt have a problem. If you have one now it will show surprisingly soon.
There is no other way to go about it because you have no other way to prove any harm done by their negligence.

I have actually seen the genuine sump plug washers split more than once, once was on the bosses Aurion , it split overnight , and another was a customers car - same thing , dont use them anymore.
i can send you a link for oil tester in Sydney who we do testing with , costs bugger all and you get a full report2012 Graphite GXL T/D Auto, with all the normal crap you fit

Mate im sure some dealerships servicing is ok but I never take mine back to them you overpay firstly and secondly most are young tradesmen maybe just out of their time or still apprentices who don't have the correct attention to detail yet (not including all). And as stated earlier capped price is just that they spend absolutely no more then they need to keep it going FOR NOW. I bought a new 4wd hilux ute back in 08 for work and got a suspension lift in the front end to balance the ute out which was done by a major suspension player down my way and the lift was no more then 2 inches. I split a cv boot at straddie then tried to have it repaired under warranty while I booked next service in and one of the guys from service department lent down on one knee had a look under and saw king springs then instantly told me I would not be covered as ive changed suspension which is absolute bulls**t.
It annoys me how much you pay for a quality Toyota product and yet day after day the after sales service lets you down. Anyway all the best with your endeavours.

Well I have a resolution...... Not exactly what I was after but without a massive fight that would drag on and fair trading and lawyers this is where I am at... Dealer has given me an extended warranty, six years 160,000 k's, and given me a written report of the incident and what tests have been done. They have agreed to independent to oil sampling over the next few services and seemed really trying as hard as they could to make me happy, which I am but obviously not as happy as I would have been had this not occurred.
The dealers are being very cagey about the sump plug and the amount of oil that was left in the car, said the sump plug was in the car and it was a split washer, but told me they couldn't tell me how much oil was still in the vehicle. I suppose this allows them to charge all of this back to Toyota Australia due to faulty washer rather than fork out due to there own negligence, but that is all speculation.
I really love this car so am hoping hoping hoping that this will be the end of it...... thank you everyone for your advice and I do hope that all posts from now will be about trips or mods or fun stuff. Roll on.

Don't trust dealers to do it, get the oil out of it in 5000k & send it away.
If it comes back ok, forget it ever happened.
If not you choose where to go from there.
By the sounds of it all oil was lost, but they don't want to say it.
I've never seen a 1kd-ftv sump plug washer split & I see them looking like they are re-used a lot also.

That's how they operate. Mods = bye bye warranty.Originally posted by lang01 View PostMate im sure some dealerships servicing is ok but I never take mine back to them you overpay firstly and secondly most are young tradesmen maybe just out of their time or still apprentices who don't have the correct attention to detail yet (not including all). You can be lucky.
Then your rego is noted on Toyo system, anytime you have a warranty the big nobs come out & inspect before they ok the repairs.
Are you really sure some dealerships servicing is ok? Or do you mean some dealership must have a good technician somewhere?
There are some techs that are good, just you odds are getting them are bad, the odds are the kids will fix ya truck good
