Whitey we have a Jayco Eagle offroad CT - is that suitable? It’s reasonably compact….

Same Q to you r4ndll, off road CT OK for your proposed route?

Just bring a mattress to lie on, you won't need a caravan or a camper trailer, you'll blend in nicely.

Bugger Bali, get out and see Australia before we sell it all to China.

Been looking at that option. Val is suggesting a 12 month trip. Apparently she is happy traipse around WA while i fly in and out of work

I hope so! That's what we are taking. Route was originally Syd>Maree>Oodnadatta track>Tanami and back by the Great Central Road. I posted version 1 earlier in the thread. But we are doing Oodnadatta this year so might look at another option, or not. Could be inland via Winton & Longreach but I'd like to go to Wolfe Creek. So really, I dunno yet

We've done Alice to Darwin route on the highway 3 times now so not that fussed about doing it again. Would be nice to call into Daly waters though as that's where I first met my now wife.

First time I did GRR I slept on a mattress in the back of my 60 series. Life was much more simple back then!

Yeah that should be fine. Just would rather not have big dual axel vans on this trip.
We may have a small off road van ourselves by then.
Campers/vans need solid off road suspension with good ground clearance and decent AT tyres.
              Can't we just keep travelling?

R4ndll. I live close to you and have done a lot of trips to that area. Have you thought about through Boulia and then the Plenty or Sandover highways to AS? That way you can get to Woolfe Creek via the Tanami OR up the Stuart Hwy to Dunmara and then west to Halls Creek from where you can slip down to Woofe Creek if you have done the Tanami before. [ No problems towing camper through any of this. I did it in June this year] PM me if you want more info. Neil

Nah, not AOR, can't afford one of those. Looking at building one myself.

We pulled a Jayco Swan Outback up and down the Gibb a couple of times, and up to Cape Leveque, and Cape York - no worries. Except for the dust.

Excellent thanks BB. I'm sure it'll handle the roads OK, I've seen some of the trip reports and places people take Jaycos and in the main they seem to hold up pretty well. As long as it's not too big regarding taking up space in the proposed campsites.....

                        • I hope you all caught the Leyland Brothers on Channel 7 (2) today. They did the Kimberley with 2 land Rovers and got all the way to the top of the state. Rollover, broken axles, broken suspension, they had it all. And crocs, bulls, fruit bats. Looked like it was early 70s. Adventure.

                          • Hi All,

Long time since I been on here.

I'm keen to go with my 08 120 with Tvan, as I haven't been anywhere since 2012/13 Australia Day Trip to Sheepyard Flats (Frys Hut) with some of the PP Gang.

Already have several route options to get there and back, from a Club Trip I had to cancel out of.

                            Getting There:
                            Geelong to Murray Bridge
Murray Bridge to Leigh Creek via Port Augusta
Leigh Creek to Oodnadatta via the Oodnadatta Track
Oodnadatta to Mt Dare via Dalhousie Springs
Mt Dare to Alice Springs via Finke
Alice Springs to Halls Creek via Tanami Rd
                            Halls Creek to Kununurra

                            Coming Home:
                            Broome - Port Hedland
Marble Bar - Telfer Rd / Kunawarritji
Gary Hwy - Everard Jct / Gunbarrel Hwy
                            Gunbarrel Hwy - Warburton
Warburton - GCR (Great Central Rd) to Laverton
Laverton - Coober Pedy via Anne Beadell Hwy
Coober Pedy - Port Augusta via Stuart Hwy
                            Port Augusta - Peterborough (Steamtown)
Peterborough - Burra / Barossa Valley
                            Hanhdorf and Geelong

Depending on time, might need to modify this suggested route of mine.

                            • Well the preparations have started for the 2017 GTG. With the camping we have done over the Christmas/ New Year period, we have been looking at what we need to get done before 2017.

Have been looking at new seals to keep the dust out of the camper, footwear for walking and going into the water holes/ falls, items for the kids (this coming years Christmas presents).

The talk around the table it still an "if we go" but is becoming more a "when we go".
