  • Help me decide whether to put a locker in!

So over easter I crunched my 90s rear diff big time and now tossing up some options

I've already found a 2nd hand diff at a wrecker for $200 and now deciding whether to just put it straight in or put in a locker and not have to worry if the 2nd hand diff is crap

Leaning towards an e-locker which I can get for $1250+installation from a friend

BUT I wonder if my car is getting too old to spend this much money on as it's 2002 and has 260,000kms on it.

Has anyone got experience with detroit auto lockers, LOKKA or truetrac LSD for the rear diff of a manual full time 4wd?

I love my car and want to keep my car as long as possible, I'm sure a locker would be great on the tracks I do but it's pretty pricey on what was a $10k car

Any help or advice would be appreciated

I have an ARB airlocker in mine, its a 2000, i also have a 2014 Vx which has traction control etc. i love the locker in my 90 and use it a lot out bush. The traction control is ok but My theory is that the locker drives both wheels equally and reduces those sudden stresses which must reduce stresses on the drive train.
The question is are you going to go bush and use a lockerr enough to make it worth it?

Well serviced and looked after you still have plenty of life left in it. My 90 is '97 model with over 420000 on it and still going strong.

I'd put an e-locker in without question. You won't regret it.

Don't forget though that on top of the price of the locker you'll also need a new ring and Pinion set and a rebuild kit. If you plan on keeping the car for any amount of time I'd get one for sure.

At 1250, I'd say do it.

Personally I have the lokka & happy :-)
Others I know also happy with lokka, but Bushbasher had issues, but may have been an installation problem I think.

I used my ARB airlocker today with great results. 4WD systems LOKKA sits in a box in the shed.

Have the ARB airlocker. With the traction control is very capable. Also have the oil leak pass the seals issue so would go a 'E' or auto locker.
