Had a Detroit one in an old Rocky, was brilliant took you anywhere. However, it wasn't that pleasant to drive as it's basically always on and unlocks when you turn corners. So it feels jerky, and noisy turning and squeals like a piggy in carparks. Also broke gears in the transfer twice because of it as that was the weakest link on the Rocky.

I have three lock diffs in my Prado, front, centre and rear and if you can afford it and will use it, I would definitely install one.

I was following another 4 wheel drive up a steep, sandy slope on the weekend which had huge holes in the surface. I watched from behind as the front vehicle tried to accend but his side wheels just spun in the air once he got the the big holes and he had no choice but to roll backwards. Mine on the other hand with rear locker engaged just crawled up the hill with no dramas much to the surprise of the onlookers.

      Cheers.

Definitely go the locker! (preferably the E, but anything will be better than nothing..)

Mine has about 260k on it as well. Supercharged it at 215k and it's still going strong. Dual lockers, ratios, body lift, custom arms, etc, etc. Needless to say the mods have faaaaar exceeded the vehicles value but there's no stopping it. It's just too much fun. I wouldn't want a newer model because I'd be going backwards in capability and it's harder to mod them to this level.
