Still has the imperial set problem. And while there are three cold chisels only one hammer? Hardly a comprehensive set!

Very nice, but a bugger to fit in the back for a weekend away!

I run one of those Total Tools kits like Nik83. It's been great for the last 3 or 4 years and the only issues I've had is the 1/4 drive ratchet wearing out to the point where it will no longer tighten.
I never bothered replacing it as I already had a Kincrome set that is still going strong after 10 or so years.

I have all sorts of different branded tools, like most mechanics.

My home tool kit in the shed is mostly sidchrome and has been great. Have had the ratchet rebuilt once under warranty, but it does get used a bit.

My work tools consist of pretty much everything from snap-on (overpriced but nice gear) to aldi stuff (used to cut up and make "custom" tools). My go to brand at the moment though is SP tools, good quality and good price. Knipex pliers are the best I have ever used and I will continue replacing my set with these as the others wear out. Vessel screw drivers are the goods, the JIS screwdrivers are the ones we want for our jap cars, they are a slightly different shape to phillips. Brands like stahlwille and genius are also great.

I guess the question is what is your budget? Good tools last several life times but the cost represents this. A great option is to hit up garage sales, markets, pawn shops, etc., that's how I have bought some of my tools.

I was buying something extra every trip. Setup another full workshop with force stuff. Plus a couple race tool roll kits.

Thanks for all the comments people! I've hobbled together a small array of tools for our trip to Moreton tomorrow and then will look to use the advise so far to acquire a few more basics once I'm back. 👍

For your average home user Kingchrome are pretty good. Used them for years. Owen VK6YBA
