Absolutely agree with this. The amount of commodores/ falcons/ camrys etc you see getting around with granddad towing the 50 foot caravan he just brought with his super payout is scary. (no disrespect intended to senior members here).

I guess there is a bigger argument here about tow weights as well- My family used to compete in horse competitions and the amount of times I saw soccer mums driving 100 series LC's with 3 horses on a massive float was scary- Police never seemed to worry about it in that case but would smash a truckdriver for having 2tonne too much on a cattle truck or tipper.

I don't really understand the logic of banning big lifts and tyres on ESC fitted vehicles either- You're telling me a 40 or 60 series with drum brakes all round and leaf springs is safer with a suspension lift and bigger tyres than a newer, lighter car fitted with stability aids and far better brakes?

Where do Kakadus fit into this ? On the high setting they are higher than most lifted 150s. Not sure about heights on the other settings.

Im trying to understand that point.

Looks like Qld adopted VSB14 V2 (circa 2011 - said you could not lift an ESC vehicle at all) and then adopted VSB14 V2.1 (Nov 2015) that allowed *only* a 50 mm suspension lift (for ESC vehicles).

NSW went out by themselves with the 50 mm suspension + 25 mm wheels (for ESC vehicles) in late 2016

I will try and become an approved person then I will test mine with lift and std size tyres against a stock Prado and mine running 70 profile. Might take a while so dont hold your breath. I hate how mine now looks with 65 profile tyres but I knowmit is just as capable as before and wont get defected.

Operation Lift and Queensland’s suspension and lift laws

I would like to correct some confusion in recent media reports and online posts about supposed changes to Queensland’s lift modification laws and their links to a recent police operation.

No recent changes have been made to Queensland’s suspension and lift laws.

To be clear: a modified vehicle registered in another state or jurisdiction can legally drive in Queensland, provided that vehicle continues to comply with the modifications that were approved in that state or jurisdiction.

          Operation Lift

Operation Lift was a three day Queensland Police Service operation on the Gold Coast.

That operation stopped more than 60 4WD vehicles and included an education and engagement component.

Infringement notices were issued for defective vehicles or illegal modifications, while other offences including drug driving and speeding.

This operation was not about enforcing new laws as no new laws had been introduced.

          Modifications in QLD

Vehicle lift modification requirements are covered by the Queensland Code of Practice (QCOP).

The codes which specify lift requirements are being reviewed.

The aim of the review is to more closely align Queensland’s requirements with Australian standards (the National Code of Practice VSB-14), without disadvantaging Queensland drivers and modifiers.

The review has proposed changes in Queensland that would see:
          • The maximum combined lift that can be certified (using codes LS9 and LS10) increase from 125mm to 150mm
          • The maximum lift by suspension alone that can be certified (using codes LS9 and LS10) increase from 50mm to 75mm.

Feedback on these proposed changes from industry has been positive and the Department of Transport and Main Roads aims to introduce them in Queensland in October this year.

If anyone needs further clarification, they can contact the Department of Transport and Main Roads on 13 23 80 or online - www.tmr.qld.gov.au/About-us/Contact-us

Why the revenue collection are there that many accidents caused by such vehicles? Has Queensland avoided the ice epidemic thats killing small towns down south? If we were genuinely concerned wouldn't yearly inspections of all vehicles by qualified mechanics be better? Whats the country got to when all the government can do is fine and tax the people?

There are always interesting points by all ,but one thing i noticed , i think how the southern states enforce rwc every year , Europe also does the same , and in some countries for 4x4s, you have a new rwc every 6 mounths. My point being ,that the vehicles will generally be kept in line with modification laws as they are checked at least yearly.

In Qld , rwc is only needed when your vehicle is left unregistered for to long , and or on the sale of the vehicle , or if it received a cert of non road worthyness.

Due to this ,Which i love, btw cuz i dont like to much paying even more to keep my vehicle on the road , it does how ever leave a loop hole where people just do what they want with there vehicle . Until they get pulled over for defects or for doing silly things on the road.

I for one do not think that the police waist most of there time on these issues. In general they let a lot of illegal stuff slide , like for eg . rod holders , are they legal , they obstruct vision , they are often home made and so have they been tested on inpact.? You see these things every day , also the tyre shops , selling illegal sized wheels and tyres for the vehicle ..... Monster wheels , They will sell you anything if they can fit it on , and say that looks sick man, But rarely they will say that these will not comply with current mod laws ect...

It really leaves us to auto regulate , but thats like asking people to always be good . We are not Scandinavians !!! lol Laws have to be set and at times and those laws need to be enforced at times as well , Right now is one of those times. I hate to say .

I have found the post by photoprado to be a solid post .

Queensland also has among the highest rego cost in the nation so we're not getting a free ride by any means. I think it depends on the police officer if they worry about it or not- It's hard to see this "operation lift" as anything other than a revenue grab given that new legislation is going to be shortly adopted and that it only recently changed in regards to ESC vehicles (with no notification to the public).

The story that has been presented to me is to do with hooning. There was a big crackdown on performance cars in Qld, and those owners, and a new generation, have moved into 4x4's and modifying them... some ending up filming themselves doing stunts along eg. Tewantin Beach and Double Island point.

Honestly if society has come to the point where it's a newsworthy item (on a state or federal level) that a few guys have done a bit of circle work on the beach then I'm pretty concerend for our future. Different if it's near people camping/ kids etc. but the ones I've seen have been on deserted sections of beach with no bystanders- Pretty harmless if you ask me.

well there will always be a few but really its rare that i have seen people endangering others on the beach.. Its conveniently appropriate right now to make all 4x4 owners look like idiots .
That way crack downs are more convincing . ...... I didnt see much danger in the videos , but no different to a few doing a donut in an industrial area at night . Its not such a big deal cuz it rarely happens these days .

Judging by the number of police vehicles heading to their homes yesterday I guess this revenue raising exercise is over?
Saw 5- bikes in a row at Miriamvale followed at various intervals by everything from paddy wagons to unmarked cars. Must have seen over 20 items between Gladstone and Gin Gin.
A great money earner and perhaps some of it will go to repair the kilometres of damaged wire style guard rail that the reflective safety tape just isn’t doing a good enough job.
Pot holes and broken pavement, not as dangerous as a 2” lift and larger tyres though according to our waste of space Mimister.

About a year ago me and a mate were sliding around in the mud the local cop was sitting up on the road laughing at us his thoughts when I later saw him was your no where near the road i don't care what you do enjoy fixing it dickhead. As he was in a commodore he couldn't drive anywhere near us that day

I travelled from Bundaberg to Miriamvale via Rosedale yesterday morning and the 5 motorcycle cops were at different place along that road. There were two places where they had someone pulled over giving them a speeding ticket.
