Has anyone regretted downsizing to a Prado

Hi every one thanks for adding me

I am looking at consolidating my vehicle fleet back to one 4wd, I currently have a Y62 Patrol, 100 Series Landcruiser, RAV 4 ( Soon to be my daughters car) and a 2018 Ranger (work car)
Looking at selling the Y62 and 100 Series and replacing them with a Prado (2018 onwards) as my daughter will soon have her licence and will not be travelling with us all the time so its hard to justify 2 full sized 4wd's
Has anybody regretted coming from a full sized 4wd down to a mid sized one? I will defiantly miss having a 300kw V8 with lounge room sized space and amazing comfort but its hard to justify keeping it.
I mostly tow less than 2 ton but will occasionally tow a horse float getting close to 3 ton
Any issues that I should be aware of with a 2018 onward Prado, I do have some concerns with DPF and lack of power

Your better going to a 200 series if comming form a y62 and 100 series

will tow the horse float like you don’t have anything

obviously it the price though that’s the decider

3 ton would be a stretch with the 2.8L 4 cyl engine. Especially if hills are involved.

Think you answered your own question. DPF and power.
Stay with the Y62, anything else will be a massive disappointment.
Even a 200 series doesn't have the poke of that big thirsty petrol V8.

I’ve driven a new 150 series for work & it was dissapointingly gutless. No comparison between its power and that of my 4.0L V6. Don’t go from a V8 petrol to the 2.8L diesel as you’ll be unsatisfied and will only buy twice to get what u want in the end.

stick with the y62, i went from a 80series petrol turbo to a current 150 and its crap in size and power will be upgrading to the new 300 series next yr when it comes out

Update I took one for a test drive yesterday very very underwhelming on power (it only had 100km's on it so probably will loosen up a bit) it's got my buggered why car manufacturers put such underpowered motor's in vehicle's apart from the lack of power it was very nice it would take some adjusting in relation to storage space but I expected that definitely haven't ruled it out but will have to give it some serious thought

Prado's slick auto makes them a very zippy car around town and even at moderate speeds.
Add some load and speed and it's a different story.
Overtaking etc needs much more distance than you will have become used to with the Y62.
Are you dead set on awd?
If not perhaps drive an Everest. Similar size to a 150 but with a lot more grunt and sometimes, even more problems.

Hi Carco gave it really good run on open road's both flat and hilly at 100-110 and also around town only had 2 people on board, the Prado only had 100km on the clock so I guessing it would loosen up a little bit over time
I would prefer awd
I have a 2018 Ranger (work car) and would not buy an Everest based on my experience with the Ranger
It's a tough call as the missus loves the size to the Prado but the lack of power does concern me, we are in no great rush to purchase but I cannot see Toyota releasing a higher powered version given diesels are being phased out, if they had a new model petrol V6 option it would be an easy decision

It's would only be a handful of times per year where I need to tow a horse float but none the less the requirement is still there, my camper which would see a lot more regular towing would be somewhere around 1700kg give or take fully loaded ( Jayco OB Flamingo)

You would be ok with 1700kg. Keep in mind 5th and 6th gears are overdrive and it's recommended to tow in 4th. I recommend you take one for a drive on the highway at 100km/he in 4th gear. You may find the revs are quite high. Also the prado benefit from a transmission cooler so auto temps should be monitored.

So you've had experience with the Ford product. Some owners have a great run, many others not so much.
I'm no fan of the emissions model Prados, mine is 2012 so maybe Euro 2?
My 90 is even better, Euro zero.
