      Re: Site changes

Guys, I think we all need to remember that this site was set up by Aaron as a service to us as passionate Prado loving individuals and no matter what changes the admins or mods want to make we should be all appreciative of the time, effort and costs that go into this site to keep it running and move on.
After all, it really is only on loan to us from Aaron.
A site is nothing without content.... ie: pradopoint is nothing without the input from the individuals that make up the community. Too much of a heavy handed approach to content access has been the downfall of plenty of sites before now. Be careful guys.

        Re: Site changes

Just to add a positive note to this change:

We've had 400+ membership applications over the last few days (pre this change it was around 8-10 per day)

And here is a qoute from one new member:

        Hello to all Pradopointers,
Like many others I have also been lurking in the background of this informative site gleaning plenty of information for over 3 years. The new lockout rules made me register – and I’m glad I was forced to login and become active.

Even if this is the only positive thing to come from these changes then I think it is worth it.IMO The more the merrier.

And sites that have 400,000 similar posts because there has been no moderation on content also have failed due to the impossibility to get info out of them easily when searched.. :P Its a double edged sword sadly..

              Re: Site changes

So the new site has managed to lure in the lurkers into registering. There's no saying they will continue to be lurkers after being registered.

Would it be possible to make the "active topics" link available to the public but not give access to the content so that we can at least see if we're interested in a topic before having to log in?

                Re: Site changes

I don't see the value in this change. Yes, it'll force "lurkers" and "occasional searchers" into signing up, but most of those people are unlikely to provide input anyway. So now we have ~400 more usernames and more burden on administration.

Is this customer/identity gathering for partners/sponsors? Next will come the spam emails!

It has been stated before why this has been trialed. Spam email, I highly doubt....

Lurkers will find that we also have used the forum features and anyone who doesnt post or log in for a certain period of time will find they need to register again as they have been pruned from the board. Did it the other day and over 200 "dead" users were removed. out of them a number "have " rejoined.
Only I know the time period applied to the Prune :P But it is suitable to find if a user is non existant to say the least..

We are not taking any ideas for upgrades on this forum as it will cease to exist in PHP BB format very soon and be a new format which will probably make a lot of users a lot happier..

Oh and I left the apostrophe out of my original admins, it should have read admin's not plural admins.

                        Re: Site changes

Easy fellas! This ain't worth arguing about - lets just wait and see what is in store...

I'm sure that the ideas are aimed in our best interests, and as indicated previously that some may or may not work - only time will tell. The people that used to login to contribute, still login and contribute... The people that didn't contribute before, may now contribute because they are infact logged in... What is so wrong with that? Honestly?

Also, I seriously doubt any one of the admins or the mods, or specifically TP, "has it in" for anybody!

                          Re: Site changes

                          I like the phpBB format.

(I don't really care...... I just don't want to get pruned...... Pickled maybe..... but definitely not pruned.)

LOL, Pickled, nom nom.. Dont worry about pruning, we have a fairly "tolerant" set of rules in the Macro. If you have made less than 1 post in like 3 years your pruned.. very tolerant!

All in all, though it is good to see the various feedback on the trial we are running.. No agro intended

Team Piggy, I'm confused. So if the forum will no longer be in PHP BB format but a totally new format, what was the reasoning and purpose behind the recent locking of the forums? Wouldn't it have been wiser/productive to just trial the new format in the first place? I'm looking forward to this new format you speak of....

                                Re: Site changes

If it works out ok, the new format will not have full guest access as this one "did".

It doesnt matter where we trial it, we would prefer to do it here as it then gives the new version of software more bang for the members.
