As expected it did not work. I forget the actual message but it was along the line "cannot read disc insert a real disc"

Still waiting for my manual also, wondering if anyone can help me. When the DVD is playing and the kids have their wireless headsets on, is there a way or what do I do, so I can still listen to the radio in the front...

        Thank you

          Hi Web13,
I found by just turning the DVD on via your remote and selecting the DVD player it isolated the sound just to the headsets. Then on the main unit in the dash you select what ever option you want and that is played through the vehicle speakers.

          Hope this helps

Dealer in Hobart received a box of Satnav and media player manuals approx 4th April. They rang me and asked if I wanted to pickup or have it posted.
I had been told at sale time that they were missing and would be arriving soon. So I am fairly happy with the local process but less than impressed that Toyota let it happen in the first place.

                    Thanks Aido,

I have tried that and when I select FM up front it turns the DVD off and plays the music. I have tried selecting FM via the radio and via the Sat Nav screen but they both still turn the DVD off.

Maybe will need to wait for the manual, the dealer posted it today for me.

                      Guys

Ive done a bit of research into this and basically the HEMA disc needs to be run on windows CE (its a cutdown version of windows like on your home PC)

Im interested in trying to lets say modify the code (or at least look at it to see if it can be done)

BUT I have 2 issues first I didnt get my original DVD from toyota and I was told its not supplied - lets say I have an interesting thing Im explaining to them like who accepted the end user agreement and toyota basically is supplying illegal software - but thats another story.

I will also need to attain help from someone that can lend me a hema disc to look at.

PM me if you can help either way

                      BJ

Finally got my manual last night. Could not believe the size of this manual, there is a significant amount of info contained within. If you have an Altitude and do not have this manual make sure you get it.

                          GPS updates and POI's etc

We have just bought a new Prado 150 Altitude with GPS unit, but like many other we did not get a user manual with the GPS/DVD units. After more complaining we hope to get one soon.

I have read several threads about Toyota units, but have not been able to find anything really informative about maps and POI's for these units.

Does anyone know if you can install better map programs for this unit and also if you can install traffic and other points of interest to it like you can with other GPS's like Garmin etc.

Update. I have the disc! Map Data ver.R18_V7

After trying multiple times to eject the dvd it finally did. It does exist and it was in the unit under the passengers seat. No lights or activity from dash disc stacker.

                            Steps were -
                            1. Press "INFO TEL" button on display unit.
                            2. Touch "Map Data" button on touch screen (3rd from left, I think)
3.Touch "DVD" button on touch screen bottom left
                            4. Whirring noise of DVD drive unloading
                            5. Look at slot and there was disc! (from rear passenger area is the easiest with front passenger seat fully forward)

If you don't get there quick enough it will reload the disc.

                            100% reliable to unload now.

Now to see if my Hema disc will load! (If I feel game to try)

                            Cheers
Many thanks and absolutely correct and instructions were perfect. I wonder if Hema will make a compatible DVD?

I took the liberty of emailing Hema on this matter and here is the request and reply:

                              ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
                              Question:
We have just purchased a new Toyota Prado Altitude which has a genuine Toyota DVD / Satelite Navigation screen that apparently operated from a DVD.

The map source is Whereis. Is it possible to purchase an aftermarket DVD of Hema Maps and can I install custom Points of Interest such as traffic information and Camps Australia Wide sites etc.?

                              Response:
                              Thank you for your enquiry.

Sorry, but the Hema digital maps are not compatible with your in-car navigation system. Most in-built systems like yours use a locked data format so third party maps cannot be used with it.

The best way to get the Hema Maps in a GPS is to buy the Hema Navigator GPS or our latest 4WD Australia iPhone/iPad app.

                              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I realise that forums do not like to be seen breaking copywrite etc., but the little I know about computer programming and software is that if there is a lock then there is also a key for an experienced hacker. I am sure that there already is or will be a site or way for us to add POI's etc.

                                Guys,
Just picked up my new Prado 2 weeks ago - and yes it came with a manual. Never read it though, as the user interface is pretty straight forward. Fast talking salesman told me while it is illegal to sell a new vehicle with safety POI's installed, they can added at a service. First 1000km service, no can do, "which salesperson said that?". Has anyone played with updating their GPS with safety POI (Red Light and Speed cams)? Appreciate you assistance.
