I'm probably the wrong person to do this since I have only used the maps as maps. #1 son isn't being helpful. Side by side the maps as maps are the same. The HN6 has much more functionality at least lots more options but both log the route and track the same. Other than that I really cannot comment because I can't drive either to their full potential. Not much help I am afraid.

What's the difference between HEMA Maps and Memory Map?

With Memory Map you only pay for the maps.

Hema maps does include a lot of maps, but not the full state Topo maps. I use both as I originally used Memory Map with the Vic Topo map as that gave me what I needed, but as I am doing the Simpson soon I purchased The Hema app as this gave me the maps I needed that cover all of the main areas. Doing the Simpson with the state based topo maps would require me to buy SA, NT and QLD maps as you go through all three.

Fido I haven't paid for any maps. Unless it was a deal at the time. I have:

Aus Topo250 (is this the same as above? I don't know)

Thanks Smakb. They have iTunes cards at 20% off at Woolies at the moment till Tuesday, means I could get the app for ~$120.

Below is what is listed in the ITunes store if you dig deep enough. I have not checked these of myself as I was only interested in the Simpson Desert at the time I made the purchase (about a month ago), but it does include a lot of maps. If there is an area you are interested in, let me know and I will confirm what is on my app and send a screen shot of an area to give you an example. I am happy with the coverage of the Simpson Desert area and the other areas I have looked at.

My advice - if you are only doing one state, go for the free app and add that states topo map for $150. If you like to explore, get the Hema app for $150 and then consider the state topo map for your state if there is an area that is not covered by what is listed below.

Wow that's a long list Stephen! So far with the Kakadu we have really only been off-road once in the Lerderberg State Park so would be interested to know if that's covered in the HEMA app. I'm sure we will travel further afield in time but we need to learn a lot more first.

Also, just how much room do these maps take up on the iPad? I'm hoping I've bought the right unit with 32gb storage, I forgot iPads don't have SD card slots.
