Sounds like 32GB will be enough then. Do Memory Map and HEMA have similar features?

Yes I have both. They are the same app underneath. I installed memory map a long time ago and put the Vic Topo maps on it. Then last month I installed the hema maps for the Simpson, as this gave me the best value to get the areas I needed. I plan on uninstalling memory maps after I work out how to get the vic topo maps moved across.

I just had a look in the apps store at the information provided. When you look at the hema application, go down to the "Description" area. Just before the next heading there is a "More" button. This will give you the details of the maps included as well as a lot of other information.

          That's good to know.

What re the other options you mentioned Hutch?

Same functionality but a pain to use and causes much higher battery consumption. I know some use it, but on a big trip it would be a real pain. IMO

Fair enough, it was just a thought.

I didn't weigh into the wifi debate because I wasn't sure but definately battery life is way lower if you rely on the wifi hotspot rather than use the 3G network.

I'm going to get the WiFi plus 3G model anyway, less stuffing around.

Go the wifi + cellular, I've been running the Hema app, was great on Fraser, but probably need to buy the Vic Topo as well.

Here is the track log from Fraser, screen shot from the Hema IPad app.

Here is Wombat / Lerderderg, as you an see a lot of unnamed tracks, there's also a lot missing. But better than nothing if you lost!

                      Hope that helps.

That's great Josh, you should have seen the cruddy maps I had to work with in Wombat/Lerderberg. So basically the HEMA app covers the area but not in as much detail as the seperate Vic topo map would?

I have the iPad now, 64gb iPad 4 WiFi plus Cellular model. I could afford to lash out, most of it came from vouchers and Qantas points. I should have gone and got myself some iTunes vouchers at Woolies, they were 20% off till today. They will come on sale again though, just have to be a bit patient.

The high country maps are topo but not the rest of the state, I reckon I'll end up getting the Vic topo's when I rack up some spare iTunes vouchers. Otherwise a handy app, along with the rest of the apps.

                          Cheers JPH

$129 isn't bad, except for the fact that to add a decent map a 1:25k map costs you $150 per state! That's around $1,000 to get decent maps for the whole of Aus! Talk about a rip off. I think Hema stands for Rip off in another lanugage, as does Memory Maps etc...

Yeah that's pretty steep if you need a full set of maps.

Officeworks have iTunes cards for 20% off currently, picked some up today. Still undecided on whether to get the state topo over the general Hema Maps collection but since I'm not planning any trips interstate maybe I should stick with the Vic map for now since as I understand it the level of detail is higher. Can the topo maps be integrated into the general Hema Maps app or do they just work with Memory Map?
