Fido - the high country is covered by the Aus raster series. I could check exactly how far it extends if you want. In terms of the 1:250k map, it translates to around 1 cm per km at a comfortable zoom level. I find that to be adequate (note I don't run this Hema app, but I have the same map). For any Urban areas, I would never use an offroad mapping program anyway, so I would never bother trying to get good coverage for a whole state. I would only cover the remote areas that you want to go. I think the app comes with the regional series pre installed?

Thanks Iantz that would be good.Originally posted by iantz View PostFido - the high country is covered by the Aus raster series. I could check exactly how far it extends if you want.
I have my factory GPS for the urban stuff and a Navman too if I can ever get the damn thing to update again. That reminds me I need to do some troubleshooting and get back to Navman Support. I got the Navman not long before buying the Kakadu and want to keep it because it's more up to date and has safety alerts and speed cameras too unlike the rather limited factory unit. For any Urban areas, I would never use an offroad mapping program anyway, so I would never bother trying to get good coverage for a whole state. Fido - I checked the maps for you. Pretty much draw a line from north to south intersecting Mansfield in the middle, and a line north to south on the easter side of Snowy River National Park. The alpine region between these points is covered in the Hema East/West high country series.Diesel Prado with various things...

For Josh and others who were waiting for the topo maps and iTunes vouchers to go on sale again they have. Hema Maps and the state topo maps are both available for $99.99 until the 5/01.
Coles and JB HiFi have iTunes cards at 20% off till 31/12.
Still trying to decide if the Vic topo map is worth getting.
Hema have a new app out called Hema Explorer for Android and iOS devices which is available via the AppStore (iOS) or Google Play (Android) for $49.99 but as I understand it the maps are not interchangeable between Hema Maps and Hema Explorer.
Hema Explorer seems to do some stuff that Maps doesn't but since I've already paid for Maps I don't think I'll be swapping over.

Didn't have a sim for the iPad when I first got Hema and still don't but tried my sim out of my Galaxy Note 3 today and it works. Now I just have to learn how to drive the app properly LOL. My mobile plan has a 1gb per month data allowance but will that be enough? I will only use the app when on a trip, it's not my primary GPS option. It's a bit of a pin swapping sims in and out of 2 devices but I guess for infrequent use it's an option.

Use the Note as a Wi-Fi hot spot and connect the Wi-Fi on the iPad to it. Easy to do and saves changing the sim over.Dave - 2010 Silver GXL Prado 150 TD Manual.

I've done that before but it does tend to suck battery power, that's one of the reasons I went for the cellular + wifi iPad rather than the wifi only model. Thanks for the suggestion though, it's still an option. Telstra does let you have multiple sims on some plans but not the one we are on.Originally posted by DGW View PostUse the Note as a Wi-Fi hot spot and connect the Wi-Fi on the iPad to it. That's a great price at $99.
BUT HEMA you are screwing the people that paid $129 and $149. You piss a lot of valuable customers off.
Why not set a constant price like $99?
OR show some gratitude with say a new map release to all, when you drop the price.
How about a map of Moreton Island and Straddie for Example in QLD.Last edited by gumboot; 28-03-2014, 08:17 PM.Robert

There's also a new High Country Maps app out from Mud Map for $49. While the existing Mud Map 2 app does contain high country maps the new app has extras not included in that app. Annoying if you already own Mud Map 2, just as it was annoying when Hema released their Explorer app and didn't give it to existing Hema Maps customers. Still if you want detailed High Country maps for the GTG the $49 option might be the way to go.
