Nice work with the switches.... That's a lot of light output with two strips. I have just the one full length strip which I find myself having to dull down with the dimmer I have attached.

Thanks mate, yeah my theory was you can never have enough light when trying to set up camp in the dark or cooking in the bush. Just makes it that little bit easier. I wondered if both would be too bright at times, thats why I put them on different switchs. Will see how they go for now I guess, may look into dimmers if I need to.

Right on, will have to research a bit. I am going to try to get out camping this weekend coming so will be able to see really how bright they are away from the street lights.

While fitting the LED lights in the awning I decided to change the LED strip on the back door, when I fitted it the first time I only had 600mm so not long enough to go the whole way across so I put it closer to the car when the door is open to get the light into the draws.

This puts out more than enough light but the problem was when I look in the mirror when driving its not center and annoys me big time. I got a black strip a little longer so is center and blends better to the trim I think.

Thanks, for that price I think I will get one anyway, where have you mounted yours and how do you find the range? Do you got to be pretty close?

Nice looking car. I have a white GXL 07 manual, with the Toyota sovereign bar. Still deliberating over whether I should change to a steel bar. Seeing yours, I think the ally bar is good enough for the rough stuff.

Thanks, It had the sovereign bar on it when I brought it so couldnt see the point in spending $$$ on something I already had when there was so many other things on my wishlist. Now I am getting to the point where I am thinking about getting a steel bar but still unsure. I have hit a couple of small roos and havent got any damage so I cant complain.

how small were the roos?? im debating whether to keep the sov bar or not.. i know they are thin compared to thesuper strong steel bar but they also are a great deal lighter than steel... so if they can withstand a hit with out damage, id be happy to keep it.

great truck Kiwis....such a great looking truck. cheers.

They wernt real big ay, not sure what breed they are. Up the gulf there are hundreds on them on the roads at dusk, a whiptail wallaby or wallaroo or close, I guess they would be around 65-70cm tall and 10-15kgs. Prob hit at between 60-80kms, Im sure hitting a big red with anything is guna leave a mark though.

A couple of pics from the weekend,

Not a bad spot to sit in the water with a couple of cold ones.
                          Practice before easter.

I have been planning on installing a winch for a little while now, Picked up a Ridge Ryder 12000LB (super cheap) a few months ago and desided to fit it to the Prado. First step was strip the gearbox to check for anything that shouldnt be in there (I have heard some people find swarf and things in these winchs) and repack with new grease which I did last weekend.
Then I machined up a couple of 6mm spacers for on top of the struts so when I put the extra weight on the front the ride height shouldnt drop at all.
I oxy cut a couple of rings out of 6mm plate and turned ID and OD and marked the PCD and drilled the holes. (Thanks to AJ120 for the measurements)

Can not notice they are in there unless you look real hard, I wouldnt go anymore than 6mm though as the studs in the strut are just long enough for that.
Without any extra weight the measurements are
                            Front Left
                            Before 795mm - After 806mm
                            Front Right
                            Before 792mm - After 805mm
So around 10-11mm of lift should compensate for the weight.
