Pretty much same brackets as mine gramps. Same method of fixing too (where did you get that idea ;p ) . I've had no probs and had the awning on for a good 18 months. My guess with the so called 'bracket failure' would be nuts coming loose. Probably didn't use nylocks etc.....

Careful with the ol' Bunnings brackets there Gramps. I've read elsewhere that they just don't seem to have the durability of other brackets that are made for the job. On one occasion I read the front bracket had a failure, with the awning nose diving into the ground whilst the back bracket remained attached. Not good.
Might pay to visit a roof rack specialist shop, or an ARB store. Whilst they were a bit more than Bunnings would charge, I think the cost of proper brackets was quite reasonable.

Finding time lately has been a bit hard, but the other weekend I managed to mount the ARB awning I scored at the GTG.
After a trip to Bunnings to grab a couple of brackets, it didn't take long to have the awning up and ready to go. A couple of holes through the HD Rhino Bars which 8mm bolts were used to hold the brackets in place along with a nyloc nut for each, and job done.
I had wanted one of these for a while, so you can imagine how happy I was when my name was called out.

While I was at the back of the car, I noticed a pair of legs at the front. After inspection, I noticed I was now the proud owner of an oil cooler. Matt had made up a bracket and fitted the cooler in front of the radiator. A custom thermo fan switch was swapped for a Bunderburg 6 pack which will be mounted ahead of the gear selector. Tomorrow I will stop in at Supercheap and grab a wiring loom and try to install it before leaving for the GTG (don't know if this will be possible).
I'll take a quick photo tomorrow afternoon after work.Last edited by Gramps; 23-09-2012, 09:59 PM.

Spent the afternoon at M.A.T.E.S garage installing some airbags. I bought them online from Trucksprings in the US of A and received them last Monday. Was a relitively straightforward job once we knew what was what. The swaybar was disconnected then each shock was removed fron the axle mounts.
With a little bit of downward pressure on the axle, the springs were removed. As the original owners had airbags before, the lines and valve were ready and waiting. I did replace the old valves and at a little later on I'll relocate them to a different position.

The old girl has a nice new pair of shoes now. 5 shiny BFG's to get me through the GTG and beyond.
Much happiness

Ok, got 2 of my sockets at the rear of the center console installed. These will power kids toys when on trips.
No photos taken as there are already a couple of rigs with the same setup that have detailed pictures. The plan is to add another socket at the rear of the console, and one either inside the console or just above the cup holder on the outside.
I ran 6B&S cable from the fuse block to the console. I then soldered 2 x 8mm cables to it that run to the sockets. A good earth for each socket is the handbrake mounting bolts.
