    • Hi Palmer,

I was also looking for a tx3440 but GME want $171 to upgrade it to an 80ch, so unless you can get the unit for around $50, then it's not really worth it in my opinion.

Did you end up buying one?

      Cheers,

      Jamie

      • G'day Jamie
I didn't get it in the end. With the cost that were being quoted (and confirmed by you) for the upgrade I decided it just wasn't worth it, so I'm still using my 40 channel hand held Uniden at the moment. It does the job for me until I find a decent in-car unit to come along (at a good price).

        Cheers

          • Dont take this the wrong way but seriously just spend the money and buy a decent uhf for the truck. More importantly a decent antenna

            • +1 for decent UHF.....had GME all my live no problems.....Got an Oricom for the prado and not happy at all.

Pay the money and stay with the brand names that have the reputation.

My only issue with the current UHF's coming out is not not many have manual Squelch, I much prefer the manual squelch over the auto.

              Bernie.

I know, I will. Probably go with a GME tx3100 as it should do the basic stuff I will need.

                  • There's lots of combo deals on eBay. Though truth be told, I don't have an "approved" bulbar aerial. But considering that the 6db whip is only 80 cm's tall and is fibreglass, I haven't noticed anything unusual with it on forestry roads.

I did use a good dose of lock tight on the screw assembly when fixing to the stock hole on my TJM 13 bulbar, hasn't moved or come loose.

What you getting? My base is fine but the whip has been reduced to a stump after two separate breakages along the 1200km of corrugations along the great central road. I will be researching my replacement to ensure outback compliance!
