Anzac Day. Perfect day for working on the car.
Replaced the upper control arm bushes and ball joints today. out come both batteries and trays to remove the longest bolt on the entire car. what a mission.
new mono tube struts went in with some dobinson coils. back up to 4" now with about 3-3.5" droop. awesome. coils are up in rate to 600lb as opposed to the OME at 590lb. honestly, i can't feel the difference in spring rate, but mate! the shocks are wicked. the OME N140S's i had before were real soft, and i mean, actually a bit too soft as it would result in boat sickness for some people riding in the 120. the new struts have cut down the sway and bounce, but have NOT comprimised ride, comfort and handling.
i am now running on dobinson coils all round, and also have no more OME on my 120. its has served me well, but was at the limit where i couldn't do what i wanted with the suspension. onwards and upwards.
another wheel alignment done, and we're on the road again. still saving for them pro comp tyres. its killin me.
went for a quick arvo test drive, mostly pot hole'd dirt roads, a few wash outs and some high speed corrugations etcs. set up is beatiful and works very well. no topping out and no bottoming out on the rougher high speed stuff and in general.

just a quick one. fitted the tyres up today, done about 50kms on them.
good handling, but so much difference between new 285's and worn 265's.
the sidewalls on the old MTZ's feel a bit stiffer than the new X-M/T's, but thickness is almost the same as far as my 2 index fngers can measure i suppose. so i have a feeling this sorta contributes to the slight increase in squirm, apart from new/deep tread on the tyre.
there is a slight hum on the bitumen after about 60km/h, its more like an AT hum at this stage, but time will tell. with the worn MTZ's, the mrs could hear me coming home from the top of the street, about 500m.
i wasn't sold 100% on the PC X-M/T's, and i was still not 100% up until i got in for a drive on them. the look of them aren't as aggressive as the Mickey's, but more like an incognito mud tyre, or an aggressive all terrain.
i'm taking the sprog to the V8's this week end, so no product testing until next week end.
but the best thing now is that the tyres are now in proportion to the lift i have.
pics coming.Last edited by 8608; 16-06-2012, 08:09 PM.SIK-120
