Certainly dont know anything about apps and to be honest dont understand why I would want an app to use a HF, hell I am not sure I even know how to get to the app store let alone search for an app, just because I ahve an iphone now doesn't mean I know, or want to know how to use it I might look at this whole text message thingy that eveyone raves about before doing anything radical like downloading apps.

My knowledge on using the HF is prety limited at this point, I am getting it checked to make sure I have all the correct channels next week, that happens in another town and whilst there I am planning on catching up with a guy from our club who is a bit of a HF guru for some intensive pre trip training.

I would be happy to help if someone asked, but no one ever has. Certainly not in the next 2 months, not going to be much net access where I am going

      Cheers Andrew

      • Your HF doesn't have Selcall tones built in, unless it has been fitted with a Selcall mic. To be able to call other users directly (using their Selcall number), RFDS, etc. you will need Selcall tones - that's what the App will do for you. Much cheaper than buying a Selcall mic.

That makes sense, something to discuss with my HF guru when we catch up for some lessons.

EDIT, have Selcall on the unit, no need for an app!

          Cheers Andrew

          • AJ I am loving this build mate, I am actually about to begin customising my 7x4 box trailer at the moment. Ive already got a good tent so want to build a hard lid for my trailer to keep the dust/water out and put it on gas struts, install a rear kitchen and some slides similar to yours for storage boxes etc. It is basically so I can keep it packed then just hitch it and go camping with the mrs and the dog.

What sort of slides and bearing system did you use for the storage crates? It's the first one I've seen similar to what I want to do so was hoping you dont mind sharing the secrets?

            Thanks mate

            • The slides for the kitchen and the storage rack are made from 38 x 25 x 1.2 RHS fencing rail! They run on bearings, LLU9000 from memory, these are around 26mm OD and mounted with 10mm bolts. I have 2 bearings side by side at each point.

If you look at the last picture in post 6 you can see the bearings, most sets below the slides and one set at the top to hold it when extended. The floor of the trailer isn't one piece, I have a section in the middle that is folded up to take the centre bearings, so that riser, half the floor and one side is all one piece, the opposite side is the same only the fold up is only short.

              Hope all that makes sense!

Here is a bit of a picture, its a bit hard to photograph it with it all packed and in place!

Jerry can holder is done, just sat down for smoko between last minute packing for the trip and said to Trish that I must take a photo and post before we leave, maybe latter today.

              Cheers Andrew

They are speedy rims, Grande II, and come with a centre cap for free wheeling hubs. The centre of the plastic caps fell out going across the Tanami years ago so don't expect them to last on rough roads.

I would upload some current trip pics but not able too. Thunderstorms, flash flooding, deep river crossings, outback goat tracks, corrugations and the Prado and CT are taking all that is asked of them, except the jockey wheel handle that fell of on the Gunbarrel, but I'll show the pics of the new handle I bush welded on after making a new one from the steering wheel Of a burnt out wreck; when I get home

                          Cheers Andrew

                              • Just a couple of pics from the current trip, seems like ages since we were on the Gunbarell, but its only a month ago!

Bucketing with rain here so having a day off!

                                Mount Beadell on the Gunbarell

The Gunbarell Hwy after 2 nights of Thunderstorms and rain.

And another unexpected river crossing a bit further along on the trip.

I'll probably do a full report when after I get home.

                                Cheers Andrew
