      • just got out the owners book and it says to use toyota super long life coolant, which is a 50% mixture of coolant, 50% deionized water.....

the coolant is a ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non amine, non - nitrite, and non borate coolant , with long-life hybrid organic acid technology( low in phospates and organic acids.....................

it says in the book to top it up with coolant, and not to use "plain water alone" ...

oh well it can wait until i change the hoses and i'll replace the lot...... and i guess if 350ml of tap water is gunna cause me greif , i"m selling my rig and buying a perjero , lol ... thx for the questions and the info i have just learned... cheers butane

youll find if you run more coolant than water, the rig runs a bit cooler, i found this out when i overheated on stockton. topped it up with some coolant i had in the toolbox, and was running pretty cold, like almost at 1/4 heat. drained it all out when i got home and topped it up with premixed coolant. fine now. i allways take demieralised water with me now.

                Cheers Octane

                • had a few comments on the roof wrap

this is a earlier photo of my rig but , the only one i could find to show you what i think would give my rig a cut above the rest...
in this photo ,you can see the definate recess in the shape of the centre of the bonnet
I will wrap this same as the roof... , in my eyes it , will give the appearance of a 120 series prado with pumped guards front on,

if i wrap the centre and leave the angled slope where it kicks up on the outter angles heading to the side of the guard , it will change the shape of the 120 series ,from front on and maybe till a 35degree of it ,

see what i mean? it should look like the 120 has pumped guards?

the flow of black , thro to the roof is a compliment.... b4 the flat rack goes on,,,,,, input welcome,,,

easy for me to picture as i spend my arvos planning thinking , wondering if i"m on the right track,
be honest , but be nice because its my pride and joy, if your honesty is negitive , welcome all the same,,,,

boys we all know the back end of the 120 needs some, after market parts, but im working on the front and it's a keeper

any thoughts on my idea?. cheers butane

Leave the centre and wrap the angled sides so they appear to run from under and out from edges of your bonnet protector. And I'm not pulling the piss when I say this but that would be awesome for when you put on a scoop!

Just some random thoughts to throw in the mix
I REKON the grille wrapped in black would put icing on the cake

                    • I don't know how well that vinyl wrap seals but my concern would be water getting under the edges and sitting there causing rust. I've seen what the panels under the old vinyl roofed cars look like after it's removed, not pretty. Just something to consider anyway.

neither do i , but as far it goes, common sense and as my missus is a tradie, but no\ specicaslist... in the wrappin' , the system of laying a big bloody sticker, that u stretch over a panel, with a heat gun , and lay it down .. air bubble free , then cook the wrap so it shrinks tighter, since i let my missus wrap the roof on my request, she has , moved foward in ten fold , in her trade .... and is now makin un believable progess in her trade as a printer/signie/graphics /. etc
and i'm glad i let her pratice on the rig,

i dont scratch it up on purpose as it is my pride and joy, but i'm a realist , and know it is a 4wd...............

once my rig is paid for , (1yr and a bit to go) ,
we plan to head down to tassie for a once in a family life trip... what happens after that i will maticulously repair, and as far as the rig goes ,,, it will be handed to my boy to do as he pleases , while i enjoy the pleasures of a retirement vehcile of whatever is the the choice at the time , when i become a grey nomad...

he is 7 , as far as the wrapp goes take it off any time you want , just turn up the heat on the gun , and peel , polish.........

over half of the new car buyers opt. for paint protection ..... fine if you like to spend your money on quality product like i do and preserve it, but not evan 1/4 follow through with the regular washing and preservation of the paint, let alone mechanical maintence.. the key factor of checking a secound hand vechile is looking at the under side of the oil filler cap.

when i purchased mine at , 97,000kays, it had heaps of gulge under the cap , the toyota dealer swore the the log book was genuine and up to date, as he proclaimed, they serviced the vechile and knew the previous local owner , before he upgraded....... debate-able...

but as you do i asked the toyota dealer , which engine oil do they use?... castrol magnatec 10w-40.. was the response..

since owning the the rig i have changed the oil every 5,000 kays with oil fitler, without fail using castrol magnatec 10w-40
I have put 40,000kays on it and used 8 filters and shit loads of castrol magnatec , the under side of the cap is spot less...

so to me , if i could give you any advise about your worries of the rusting of your vechile ,,, id check under your rear door seal... and most of all ,,

maintain your own vechile.... cheers mate , butane

                        • so i took the time tonight , to stop !!!!!!!!!!! and listen . and look at the engine and exhaust ..
had the steroe goin' in the drive all avro till 9, so fired her up with the parkers on, a/c on high with the doors open windows down,,,

the a/c solenoid was sticky at first but after the half hour charge, was alot free er.. so too speak...
it was cycling at about 15 sec. in and 25 off, clok clak ,, bla bla

but what i did hear was the imfamous left side ticking of the v6 .. was non existant under idle A/C load , driveway style
that means if the guldge under the cap is gone , and the ticking in the left bank is gone... oil change is the issue...

i evan listened up the tail pipe ( with out gassin' my self .. as this v6 is tuned ) there is a ticking sound but boyz i"m shore that is the natural sound of the donk.. from both sides of the car it's the same ... ticking . but being honest now it is the faintest clickin' sound .....if ...

you get this equal note out of your 1GR-FE , you'd have to be stoaked, too, cheers butane

                          • Hi there Butane, mate not a thing to worry about. That's normal for the V6 to have a ticking sound like a leaking exhaust manifold. If some ones V6 doesn't do it Id be more worried lol. With window up you cant hear it, but with it down under moderate throttle its noticeable. Where you do hear it more is if your next to one of those concrete barriers on the freeway and give it a bit, then you notice or when you first give it some from a standing start. After that you forget the sound and enjoy the power they have pushing you back in your seat and kicking the arse of the doof doof machine that intended to blow you away at the lights and had to tuck back in behind you. I don't do that too often. don't like to flog it and I don't want to be giving petrol companies any more then I have to......And keep away from the exhaust, your neighbours may begin to think your gone mad (run out of lighter fluid did we LOL)...........Cheers Steve

                            • steve, no doof doof, lol , just the country channel on F.M 105.3 ... since owning this rig i have noticed the sound of the clicking is minimal now compared to 40,000 kays ago... fequent oil/filter changes have reduced the sound ..... in my opinion... cheers butane

                              • spent the day, teaching one of the neighbours mates . , how to change wheel bearings and check/ flush the fuel system, on his new boat.............. then pulled the leg offf his yamaha 30 . just to show him how easy it is to check the impeller your self. the explained how easy the gearbox oil changed,, all up it cost him 42 dollars for the right trailer bearings,,, and the car type seal, 10 dollars for the gearbox oil... and came back with a box of beer...... he was quoted 540 dollars

nice day fixing .. , the only negitive was i had just started to sett up for a full under body check/clean. found out the petrol gxl. 2005, doesnt have a underbody fuel filter above the tail shaft like the diesel's......... when he turned up ... good day any way......cheers butane
