It's out with the old and in with the new.

Sold the 2010 silver GXL D4D Auto. It was my first 4wd and it gave us some great memories:
- 2016 trip through the Pilbara
- 2017 trip through the Kimberley
- towed our camper many times to the south west
- lots of beach & dune work
- instilled a passion in me for DIY 4wd upgrades

Took delivery of a new 2019 GX D4D Auto in January. I wanted white but went against the normal practice of GX in Glacier White and ordered Crystal Pearl. Pre-delivery options:
- Toyota tow bar
- floor mats
- Boss Vapour wheels
- Toyo OPAT2's in 265/70R17

So far I'm really happy with it. Power delivery and transmission are quite different in the 2.8L, I preferred the shifting in the 3.0L as it would shift up a bit earlier. But I am loving the radar cruise control.

Tinting, roofrack, bullbar, lift kit and side steps done.

Rhino platform is the 1.9m version, a straight swap from the old car.

Steps, bullbar and lift kit are Ironman, 300kg springs and Foam Cell Pro shocks. The unloaded ride around town is good, less body roll and not harsh over speed bumps. Yet to give it an off road workout. The bar is a Premium Deluxe, which mainly means 60.3mm tubing as opposed to about 50mm.

DIY project Safari snorkel install done. Took a couple of evenings and was pretty satisfying, given the worry I had approaching the job.
Attaching a few photos in case anyone else is thinking about giving it a go themselves.
The Safari instructions plus a couple of youtube videos were good enough to see the job go smoothly.
I used Sikaflex 227 as a sealant for the metal cuts.
Also used some flexi sealant on the air hose joins to the airbox and snorkel. I sealed up the 3 drain holes in the airbox, but left the one-way drain valve open.

Dual battery fitted, sits on a Piranha tray.
Charger is an Intervolt DCC Pro which is mounted behind the grill.
The Intervolt comes with a remote display unit which is used for setup and displays the main/aux voltage and aux charging rate.
A 6B&S cable runs to a rear fuse box which is tucked away inside the box above the jack.
The fuse box will be used mainly for fridge and lighting.

False rear floor fitted made from carpeted 12mm ply. Provides a good base to secure the fridge slide. The floor itself is held down by the 4 OEM corner anchor points, which themselves will be used to secure the rear drawers.

Builds looking good mate, would like to hear your feedback in the future regarding the inter volt dcdc,

what size circuit breakers are those?

I have a 70amp breaker running 6b&s to the rear with a fridge running straight off it from the aux battery.. I currently just take out the battery and charge it on the mains as I only need the fridge when we go on trips and also no money for a dcdc currently

with the fuse block do you just tap in to the positive and neg off the 6b&s ? And then just run smaller wiring to the other accessories ?? What size wiring and fuse would be adequate for a 50l fridge?

sorry I havnt wired up a car before this is the first one I’ve done just seeing how others have done it ?

and are you just running the earth back to the battery too? I have what a mission running those huge twin core through the grommet in the engine bay

Nice on the tarmac, feels firmer with less body roll than stock, not harsh at all. Only taken it offroad in the dunes so far, handled some steep boggy stuff with ease.

50A each, one is to the Intervolt and one to the rear fuse block, both with 6B&S.

Only the +ve 6B&S to the fuse block. The fuse block is earthed to a point inside the hole where the jack lives.

All smaller wiring from the fuse block for LED lights uses 7.5A figure 8 cable, as they will only draw 1 or 2 amps each.

For the fridge I bought a spare 12V cable with plug and am going to hardwire it directly to the fuse block. When not in use it will fold up inside the fuse block compartment. That will save having to create a 12V socket to plug the fridge into. I had a 12V cigi socket on the old car and used 15A figure 8 cable.

That would be a mission! I put all my cable in split loom tubing and ran underneath the car, zip tied right up out the way, much easier. There is a grommet in the rear floor just near the jack well where you can route it into the cabin.

Two more upgrades for the rear door - fold down table and LED strip. Both very handy for camping and touring.

Fitted some Supernova Ultra Extreme 8.5" spotties today. They are LED with some DRL strips as well. Continued my 12V learning journey by wiring them up myself, probably takes me twice as long as a sparky but I enjoy it as I can take my time to do a neat wiring job and it gives me an excuse to be tinkering in the garage
I have ordered one of the Stedi switches for switching the main beam.
For the DRL's I wired them into the existing DRL circuit that is used by the round lights in the bullbar, so the single dash switch now controls both.
Will post pics of the switches and light beams soon once I get them adjusted.

Some night-time pics showing the performance of the new spotties. Taken on phone so quality is a bit so-so.
The photos make the standard high beam look better than it is, and the spotties worse than they actually are.
I have trimmed the spotties up a couple of degrees after these photos too.
The standard low/high beams on the GX are pretty average, well below the new bi-led's you get on the GXL, but I am happy with the reach and colour of the spotlight output.
