What? it's been raining in FNQ? Hadn't heard about that! Geez sorry to hear that mate!
Sorry got to go, there's an emergency as my pool water is up to the top of my skimmer box!!
Craig you're so lucky!! my water level is up to the skimmer box too but i also have leaves in my pool from all the bloody winds. Where oh where is the SES when you need them????
The inlaws are up in Monteville and have no power and a bloked in up there by road closures, they're ok though so they'll live. i guess it's just the price we pay every now & then to live in this great place.
That being said i do feel for all those people who are affected by our lovely weather atm.

Agree with all the comments i have read so far.Seeing the tv footage of bundy and remembering what it looked like last year in July i too pass on my well wishes for those affected by Mother Nature. My Works call centre is based in one of the brissie suburbs and quite a few of the workers there also had major damage.
This whole 'extreme weather event' issue is pissing me right off...
Firstly, FNQ has been getting hammered for the last week, suddeny its a problem beacause its hit Brisbane...
Secondly, Suncorp quoted me 5K for insurance 2 months ago and the cheaps house & contents i could find anywhere whas $2600...
Guess whats gonna happen now???
Oh poor brisbane... No... #### brisbane, you take all our mining money a it gets spent on the south east roads whilst we drive on absolutely stuffed roads up here...
Ok it rains in brissy suddenly qld is suffering
Everything evolves around brisbane, well thats hard to copp when your constantly holding the baby for the lucky state...
Ive had enough, next time my insurance will be 8k for the house...
Stuff this. Im moving back to adelaide...
QLDers are constantly getting bucked over.
Rant finished.
How about a little more perspective from the people in every other state in the country who are still forking out huge amounts for their insurance to pay for the only state in the country that doesn't insure it's own infrastructure . My business insurance went up $600 per year because of the 2011 floods . Funny I don't live or work in QLD . Having got that off my chest , stay safe Qlders , stay outa the water .

I've lived here all my life and speaking to 80 year old family friends, none of us have never seen rain and water run off like we had this week. Yeah we get floods, but the water levels and affected areas from rising water are very predictable. This time everything just couldn't handle the pure volume of water coming down in such a short period, water in houses and roads cut that never have before and possibly never will again. We had concrete bridges over normally dry creek beds washed away that have survived past cyclones and numerous floods. Whilst i feel for all those affected by the water, I really feel for the people in the areas that have never flooded before and are well outside normal flood maps but now have a metre of water or more in the living room.
I too get a little frustrated when the national news had a few 15 second segments about the Cyclone in Weipa, then the rain in Cairns, Mackay, Rocky, Gladstone and Bundy. Then as soon as THE SAME SYSTEM drops some water on SEQ we end up with rolling news coverage of the "QLD flood emergency". Having said that, when it is going to effect over 3000 homes in one area it is not good. I just wish we could send some rain to the bush fire effected areas, they need it far more than us at the moment. PS, when did they last cover the damage in Weipa from the actual cyclone? Be nice to see some sort of follow up.
Stay safe all and for f@ck sake keep out of swollen creeks etc. I cannot believe the number of idiots needing rescue simply because they have done something stupid.

Because my camping trip was cancelled I decided stayed in Brisbane with friends for the long weekend. When I drove down on the Friday afternoon I never imagined we were going to flood like we did. Especially the Lockyer area. My phone went flat on Saturday night & I forgot to bring my phone charger so couldn't be contacted by family in Toowoomba to let me know what was going on at their end. We had no power for lengthy stints so only saw a little bit of news coverage Sunday night. Ch7 mentioned the Bremer River was going to peak in Ipswich at midnight Monday night. So I thought if I left Brisbane by 4pm I'd be fine to get through. I didn't see any mention of the Warrego Hwy being cut by a 3km length of water that was over 2m deep at all, or that the hwy was impassable as of Sunday afternoon (the day before).
The Warrego Hwy was eerily quiet with hardly any cars on it and not a truck to be seen anywhere which never happens at any time of day/night on that hwy. I started to suspect the hwy was going to be blocked off. I tuned into 94.9 FM on the way who were saying the Bremer was going to peak at 6pm now instead of midnight. I was like, "F*ck!!!!" I kept driving anyway while dodging the massive potholes in the road everywhere, to get to the road block to try and get an indication from Roadtek personnel of when the water would subside.
I eventually approached the Roadtek truck blocking the road 15km east of Gatton late in the afternoon on Monday. The bloke couldn't give an indication of when the water would go down and I assumed at dawn. He agreed. I thought I'd give it a shot to try heading up through Coominya & take the Gatton Esk Rd back down to the other side of Gatton & go home. If it failed, then I'd just turnaround and wait by the hwy again until it was opened. I drove to Blacksoil and headed north up toards Esk in that direction. The first bridge had a massive, wide swolen river about a foot under it flowing through. I was hoping I could drive over all the swollen rivers if they were under the bridges. I went over the Wivenhoe Dam wall and the area where the release was done was completely flooded. I made it 35km and it was dark by this time and pissing down rain, I made a few turns here and there and then a 200m stretch of the road was covered with deep gushing water. I stopped at the water's edge and switched the spotties on and just watched it for a few minutes before turning around. Then my Navman was giving me the runaround and wasn't directing my back the most direct way. I wanted to take me down narrow dirt roads and some of which were signed "No Through Road." Then I found my way to another random road care of Navman and approached a parked 4wd L'Cruiser ute at the water's edge of another flooded road that I parked behind. The road rounded a long left bend in the dark and I couldn't see the end of it. The ute was left with both doors open, highbeams/spotties on over the water and nobody in the car at all. They must've gotten out and walked the road to see if they could drive it. From what I could see & make out, it didn't look passable and had a bit of a current. I turned around and eventually made my way back to Blacksoil and then headed to the road closure again. I was the first to park on the side of the road and wait it out (east bound side). 2 other cars parked on the side of the road to wait over the next 2 hours & I chatted to one of them for a bit and then we chatted to the Roadtek guy for 30 minutes. All the others chatted to the Roadtek bloke for a minute or two as they approached him in their cars and then turned around, took off the way they came and you never saw them again. I went to sleep in the car on the side of the road at about 11pm and woke up at 3:15am to see a line of trucks and cars waiting to pass through the road heading west bound. I noticed heaps more cars parked on my side of the road pulled over to sleep. Then after 15 mins the Roadtek truck opened the road and we were all allowed to drive through under escort of Roadtek vehicles and police. I quickly turned the car around and joined the short queue went home. The east bound lanes only were open only and the road was still under water in sections and it was a bit chopped up. It was a long afternoon/night. Very interesting though.
I think the Australian media need to be aware that there are other tragic events occurring around the globe. I havent heard anything on commercial TV on the Brazil Night club fire where to date, 231 revellers have lost their lives...
