Diesel, kerosene and jet fuel are all produced at the same point in the refining process therefore they compete against each other for raw material. When demand for jet fuel increases, less diesel is able to be produced and the price increases due to increased demand/reduced supply:

When the alternative is a 3L 4 cylinder diesel... It just isn't MANLY at all, sorry. Even milk and juice now come in 3 litres

Sort of, they occur at different temperatures in the refining process:

          • Jasen you will need more than 25,000L. Remember it pretty much only rains in winter so you will have to carry enough water for nearly 6 months. I am on tanks too and have 90,000L. Just over 1m of rain mostly spring and summer. Roof area is another consideration you need to think about. Each m2 yields 1 L of water per mm of rain. You need to end the wet season with full tanks and then work out how many L per person per day. Probably 100L ish. Go for water conservative appliances like washing machines etc and use a pressure cleaner instead of a hose for washing things.

Modern diesels have cat converters so these too can set fire to dry grass so you need to be mindful of that, not like the old days.

Why the hell have you got that much rainwater? I thought you had town water?

I was only getting a 25,000 tank and there's no water there.
As the guys have said, the more water the better! Nothing worse than having to take short showers because the tank is getting low.
Oh and any fire fighting gear you buy eg pumps, tanker trailers, chainsaws (yes for cutting fire breaks hehehe) are tax deductable.

              • Dear Roo I was going to suggest something but Steves way is much more subtle.............I was going to dispatch 2 possum assault teams, 1 to go and steal $200,000 from the bank, 80 to repay the cards, 80 for a new 150, and the rest for whatever. Then they are to kill the bank staff just for shits and giggles.
The second team will be dispatched to your house to superglue you wives fingers together rendering her incapable of pressing eftpos buttons ever again.

But as I said Steves way is a bit more subtle, that's why he is the "strategy specialist" and I just like to blow shit up.

How do you stop your wife spending money on credit cards, like $80,000.00 worth.
The banks just keep on given her more credit cards too. Predatory bastards they are.
It has stopped for now, but the repayments are around the $300.00 a week for the loan to pay out the other credit card loans.
I wouldn't mind so much, if she went out and bought something like a 150 GXL, white in colour, but alas, nothing to show for the $80,000.00.
I am not even thinking of the trust thing here, even though that goes to the very heart of the matter.
Forgiveness, seems to be the only way out, ha, ha.
                Please help.
                The Roo.

Thank you for taking the time to contact the KLC.We understand your concerns regards to your wife's credit card addiction and I am certain one of our highly trained possum ninjas can help.
Firtsly I propose an immediate shipment of Possaki our head ninja possum to do a recon of the area and collect as much intel on your wife, the bank and shopping centres in the immediate areas.
Secondly, Once enough intel as been gathered it will be more than likely given the seriousness of this problem that 2 (yes 2..thats how bad the problem is) of our elite special forces possum will be deployed. Their job will be to infiltrate the bank in disguise and "rough" the bank manager up all while showing him incriminating photos of him dressed in ladies underwear whilst dancing to ABBA music, Once that has been acheived we move to operation Credit Card, Our possums will infiltrate your wife's purse and nibble her credit cards to death, thus rendering them useless.

Then on your behalf 2 of our sweetheart possums will be used to obtain a large quantity of red roses and choccies with a special card and have them sent to your wife. This act alone will subdue your wife to the point of being compliant and will dote all over you, probably to the point of stressing your aged old Ticker, but you will know that she is loyal, faithful and yours.
Of course this has nothing to do with the fact our Hypnotist possum paid her a visit whilst she was sleeping.

We hope you find our services above and beyond your expectations and recommend the KLC to others in times of need.
If however you find the spending continues, we would like 50K in unmarked bills for the deployment of our "Mafia" possum squad.. I do not think we need to go into details here, but suffice to say the spending will well and truly stop..

                Kind Regards

Jasen the lowest the main tank has been is about 20%. I have a 65,000L main in ground concrete tank. Concrete is good because rain water is a little acidic and the concrete tank neutralises that. I also filter and UV treat the drinking water.

This is the tank under construction some 10 years ago. 6.5m in diameter and 2.5m deep. The lid is good for 3kPa with posts to the floor.

And here is a shot of it now, sort of. I don't actually have any decent pictures on the computer so I just cropped a shot of the Prado that happened to have the tank in the background. As you can see I built a gazebo on top of the tank. Pretty easy construction with 8 150x150 hardwood posts bolted onto the top / sides of the tank. 200x50 hardwood beams between the 8 posts and then trusses on top. Took me a few weekends and I had to make up a mobile crane using some 6m lengths of C channel fitted to my trailer and a boat trailer winch but that is another story. A snip for an experienced builder such as yourself. And of course your possums.

That picture is when I decided to paint the gazebo to match the verandah so the oil treatment was being taken off. The oil was a waste of time to be honest.

EDIT: I nearly forgot the most important part of the gazebo. It provides a dry warm haven for some of the premium possums come winter since there is no ceiling.

I have a poly 25,000L tank on the shed. So when it rains lots and the main tank gets full I pump up to the second tank until it is full. Then sadly any excess is lost water. I was going to put 3 10,000L steel tanks on my carport, slimline things. I even cast the slab wider to accomodate the tanks but the cost of them is higher than any worth so I haven't bothered at this stage. Come winter when we usually have it pretty dry I drain the poly tank into the main tank when that gets to 50% or so. This year I haven't had to. Generally the lowest time of the year is August just prior to September rains. This year my tanks are pretty much full. The second tank is at 80% and the main tank full as a goog. I have a fair bit of roof area feeding the main tank.

I run a biocycle which I think is better than septic, not that I had any choice. The water that comes out of the sprays can be used for trees and grass etc and there is absolutely no smell. Costs to keep it maintained though so that is a cost you wont have with a septic. My biocycle is possum free as well.

                          • It is a nice place to sup a coffee on a Sunday morning. Because I know better I didn't hire a nail gun to build the trusses and frames. Something to do with $ at the time so I taught myself to hammer left handed, very necessary given the tight spaces.

                            • I think I need to get Barrett (bite your tongue Craig) to give my possums a few lessons and keep the filthy dirty shitting peewits out of the gazebo and carport. I actually have to store my kayaks upside down because a possum built a nest in one. Things became a little interesting when we lifted it down one morning. I still don't know how long it took Priscilla to drag all those branches into the kayak, looked like half a tree!

If you are going to build on the tank make sure you get an engineers drawing of the tank before you submit the plans to the local anti building authorities. Wow that was a saga including "we don't have any charts for 150mm hardwood posts" Do you have any for 100mm posts? "Yes" Are the 100mm posts ok? "Yes" So the 150mm posts by definition must be ok'er? "Maybe" The same guys couldn't understand what 3kPa meant either and were worried people would fall through the 150mm thick slab. Oh dear. The lid to the tank actually exceeds the specs for a suspended concrete floor in a house.

I was just going to pitch the roof but after that episode it was easier to buy prefabricated trusses with a certificate and just assemble them. I'm just glad the former neighbour who was a WH&S officer had left the area by then, the posts are 3m long.
