Been some good advice coming thru on this one.

I never go camping without a good selection of cable ties. Handy to have, even if dont use them. Great for hastily arranging tarps

Also take miners headlamp, heaps of easy snacks/fruit for hungry kids, and have found cool evening nights are more comfortable with a bottle of Stones Mac...
    Cheers

This is the best advice ever, because it is usually not till night fall that you realise and then sober is not often part of the equation. There follows a very funny hour or so for onlookers as you try to get it sorted while becoming increasingly frustrated.
On the plus side, you usually only do it once

Who has a jaffle iron? The wife and I were commenting yesterday that we never see jaffles anymore, once upon a time you could get them in cafes etc but I guess it is not yuppie enough to be seen eating a jaffle. Maybe if they were to call it some italian or french non pronouncible name they would come back into the cafes as the latest thing in Europe.

Well we are going to go and see if one of the local camping stores still stocks them as by god the old jaffle is delicious.

          They still have em Mav.

Ive never had one myself but I have seen them recently in outdoor stores.

come to think of it, might actually get one. Would be handy for ham, cheese and tomatoe sandwiches at lunchtime :P

A basic rule of thumb when packing for a trip is everything you take should have two uses.

Heres one that fits the bill, a bow saw for firewood and for cutting down a roast to make sure it fits into the camp oven.

Hey Simmo, how ya been mate? Good to see you posting again.

I bought a double cast iron jaffle iron today at one of the local camping stores for $13.00 . Now I just have to cure it and we shall be having some good old jaffles again. MMMMMMmmmmmm baked beans and ham.

We need a favourite recipe thread for camp cooking!

                Hi Mav,
Mate I haven't been too far away. I May not have posted as much lately but I am never too far away. Might be "going away" soon though but that's another story (post traumatic stress - yes I used to think that was all bullshit too).

If you're after some camp oven recipes or other info on camp ovens I found this site recently

                http://www.aussiecampovencook.com/

Also, I was actually impressed with Roothy's little tip in the latest DVD. He used a tin of catfood, with a couple of holes in it as yabbie bait. I thought that was pretty good Last time I was out I wasted 2 perfectly good sausages

Yeah I saw that one with Roothy yabbying. Took me back to my childhood yabbying in the golf course ponds at Leichhardt in Qld.

Hope you start to pick up again real soon Simmo.

Never mate I think my post count there is still under 40. Not a bad place to get the low down on camper trailers and camping in general.

Anyway, back to camping tips.....can't think of one right now.
