The salient and amazing points are always the same:
The drivers at fault are initially very abusive towards me and adamant that it wasn't their fault.
I let them have their spray. When they calm down I hit them with the facts of the matter via a bunch of questions. Then add if they can show me in the road rules where their maneuver is safe and legal, I will pay for the repairs.
Regardless, the "conversation" always ends with words to the effect of "good luck getting me to pay up for this one". So much for personal responsibility.
The worst was a cab driver. Fortunately, a passenger in the cab provided a witness statement for me.
Also, I have found its a good idea to set your smart phone recording in video mode before you get out of the car to exchange details. This helped in the case of the taxi driver as he refused to show me his licence, ending our exchange by telling me to f*&% off and wishing me luck in making a claim. The cops loved that I had recorded our little exchange. I also found that any associated taxi entity will give you the royal run around and do anything to protect the taxi driver.
