              Re: The Favourite Photo Thread

Not sure where to post this... this seems the most appropriate.

Yesterday afternoon while exploring a lookout in the Flinders Ranges, we saw an Wedged Tailed Eagle flying nearby carrying something in its talons. When we look more closel with binoculars, we realised it was actually carrying a joey. The eagle was clearly at the peak of its weight carrying limit and only just managing to maintain flight, but only just. The strong winds over the Ranges were clearly helping the eagle to fly. We tried to get some photos as it looked amazing to see a small kangaroo hanging from beneath the large bird of prey. It was an amazing sight, indeed.

You can make out the silhouette of the joey below the eagle in this photo. Unfortunately, due to fading light and distance, it was very difficult to get a better photo.

                Re: The Favourite Photo Thread

I'm not the best with taking good photos, but I did take this photo (I reckon its awesome) on Black Saturday.
It looks like the helicopter is coming to get me! If anyone has ever read the book called "Tomorrow When the War Began" they may be able to understand why I loved this photo so much....

This other photo is also from Black Saturday, it was taken just as the wind picked up and the fire started getting out of control. You can see the smoke pouring off the country side.....

                    Re: The Favourite Photo Thread

Two amazing shots there, BPC's helicopter and NT's bird of prey. For me a shot doesn't have to be perfectly sharp or have beautiful lighting, both those shots tell a fantastic story.

Its amazing that the wedge tail can carry a small roo, but if you didnt know what it was carrying it would still be a brilliant shot! The evening light is very evocotive (?sp) to me, as is the smoke in BPC's shot. And you can still see a lot of detail in the foreground NT, well done. Two of my favourite things, the mighty Wedge Tail Eagle and the Flinders Rangers. Love it.

                      Re: The Favourite Photo Thread

Love the recent shots on this thread. I stopped on the side of the road on the last trip back with the camper trailer from Brissy and thought I would catch some Wedgetail shots. the lighting was not the best as I was shooting into the sun.

There were about 8 Wedgetails in this group and they were not all that happy with me approaching their dinner. That is why I was receiving this "dont't come any nearer" stare.

                        Brilliant Mav :!:

How close did you get for the "take another step closer and i will tear your eyes out" shot?

Love birds of prey. I sat for an hour in Edeowie Gorge (Wilpena Pound) years ago and watched tow Wedgetails fighting mid air. They would fly to a few hundred meters above ground, lock together, and plummet until they nearly hit terra firma, break away and do it all over again. Now that i think about it, maybe they werent fighting

I have also seen one scare a huge big red kangaroo away from the nest tree. It dropped from a long way up, wings tucked under in the attack position, and when it was a few feet above the roo it flapped its wings together producing a stock whip type sound. The roo took off like it had just been jolted with 20000 volts

I was about 10 feet away from them, if they wanted to they could have certainly caused me some injury as they can be quite aggressive if they feel like it.

A few shots from our recent trip to the UK. Weather was unbelievable, warm and sunny mostly. Highlight no doubt the Ferrari Enzo stationary on the side of the Motorway, driver sitting on the bonnet head in hands. While the Police booked him for speeding!
